Paul Grynewicz, Herne’s Ready For Figure 8 Racing Invasion
World Figure 8® Racing Tour
Indianapolis, Indiana
February 6, 2009
An ultimate veteran (Paul Grynewicz) and a pair of up-and-coming drivers (Neil and Charles Herne) are next to throw their helmet in the ring for the Florida Figure 8 Championship. They bring experience and youthful enthusiasm to the series to be held at the Auburndale Speedway from February 12th to the 15th, 2009. That week will see the sunshine state overflowing with the best short track drivers on the planet. Six classes of racing machines will compete during the four-event campaign. The Florida Figure 8 Championship is proud to have these names added to the festivities.
Hudson, Florida Figure 8 living legend Paul Grynewicz is set to bring his nearly 50 years of experience in racing competition to the upcoming Figure 8 series. His championship resume includes the 1983 Sunshine Speedway Pro Figure 8 title, 1992 DeSoto Speedway crown, 1992 Southern Florida Figure 8 deed, as well as the Auburndale championship. That super successful campaign also included being name driver of the year at the Hialeah Speedway. The sunshine state star has more crossover triumphs than one can count including three recent main events wins at Citrus County Speedway in 2007.
Paul’s victories have not been limited to the Figure 8 machines (even though they are his favorite). He has wins in the Street Stock and Modified divisions. Grynewicz even captured the 1997 points title in the Southwest Region of the American Race Truck Series. He even brought his grace and crossover timing to the Midwest competing at the Indianapolis Speedrome and Jeffersonville Sportsdrome in May of 1993. Paul will have a huge presence during the tour with a fan base that ranks near the best in all of short track racing.
The Herne racing family got the fever for the track a few years ago and found a home in the Figure 8 world. Brothers Charles and Neil Herne III have become one of the special breed of racers who challenge the dreaded crossover twice a lap. With their dad turning wrenches out of their successful family business, the duo made the journey to the World Figure 8® Championship in Indianapolis for 2007. It was a valuable learning experience and saw the team return home to build some more high-powered machines. That was the way to go as Neil garnered the group’s first Figure 8 feature victory at the Citrus County Speedway on June 21, 2008. The team will field a third car in this upcoming series for pilot Eric Sharrone.
The Florida Figure 8 Championship is sanctioned by the World Figure 8® Racing Tour. It has dates set for February 12th to the 15th, 2009 at the Auburndale Speedway. These events evolved from the legendary World Figure 8® Championship held each year at the EDCO Welding Indianapolis Speedrome®. The $20,000 to win, 33rd Annual World Figure 8® Championship is September 10th to 12th, 2009.
