There is no form of racing existing in the world today where the purse money covers the race team's expenses. Not Sprint cup, not Formula One, not Dirt Late Models. Look at the monday newspaper at the Nascar payouts and the PGA payouts. The golf tour almost always pays out more than Nascar and all the golfers had to do is get there and bring some clubs.
I have done some construction work this year for a mid level pro golfer and a mid level pro race car driver. The pro golfer lives in a multi-million dollar home in a gated community, the race driver lives in a 3 bedroom ranch home.

I have an opinion. My opinion is that you are an idiot if you are spending upwards of $2000 a weekend to race and complaining that you dont make all of it back. $140 for oil every race? 80 gallons of gas to get to and from the track? Either you are towing 400 miles each way or have a huge gas hog of a hauler. Either way, you probably have enough money to cover it and shouldnt be complaining again. If you are buying 2 new sets of tires for every race...... well, you get my point.

I think people have lost the idea that this is a hobby. If you are in this sport to make money, then you better have a lot of money to start with cause it rarely happens. I was fortunate enough this year to come out in the positive, even after losing an engine. Was it cause I out spent everyone and won every week, no. I was smart with my tires, ran the same left front all year. I guess what I am trying to say is stop looking at the costs only and start looking at the memories you make and the good times you have. For most of us racing is not a career, but the reward we get from working our careers that we can have fun with on the weekend.

Ok you wanted a reply, here it goes. Combining all the late models is not only a good idea I think it will be a neccessity if we want car count. This goes for all tracks. I like the format with heat races meaning something, Will you start from your heat finish or some sort of invert? Do you get start money for only feature? If you get wrecked in the heats are you going home empty handed? As for tires, will you limit the amount of tires teams can buy on any given weekend? I think there needs to be clarification. It is a long way to tow for only 50 laps. I think it should be at least 100 laps if you want cars from all over the state. Not much difference in cost to run 50 or 100 laps. Purse needs to be a little higher, the winner of the race should at least be able to cover costs. I am not talking the amount on the earlier post I am talking reasonbly paying for fuel tires ect. Winner should be gauranteed at least $1000. then pay back at 50 dollar incraments. Do away with some of the other bonus' if need be. I think your on to something if your willing to fine tune

I read that story in Circle Track also about trying to spread the pay-out further back in the field and I think Johns idea is great, but they need to take it another step and figure out a pay-out for the weekly shows that also pays less at the top and more towards the middle of the field and the back of the field. I really think the weekly shows are the local guys racing and more cars would want to race if the pay-out was in such a way that everybody could win at least a little money to help with all the cost of racing a car.
