Just to unofficially update everyone who is considering coming to the North Georgia area this weekend, the fuel situation is slowly getting better. I passed 20 stations this morning and 6 had fuel. Most lines waiting to get fuel were only a few cars deep. You will pay between $3.99 to $4.30 per gallon and you can only get diesel and 87 octane. If you need higher octane, I would throw some bottles of booster in the trunk. The stations closer to the interstates seem to have more fuel than those off the beaten path. So, if your going to Talladega, Dixie or Peach State speedways, you should be able to find fuel near those tracks. Rome is about a half hour off the interstate.
I would make sure I had at least a half tank of fuel at all times. Trying to find a station with fuel is like hitting a moving target. In other words, don't bypass an open station assuming they will have fuel on your return trip.
Hope I'm not scaring anyone off, I just want to make sure everyone knows what to expect so they don't ruin their trip.
Of course, you could do like Rick and strap 100 gallons of diesel to your pickup and not worry about a thing!
Wherever you are this weekend, go to a racetrack!

What a weekend!!!! Just about everywhere we went over the weekend you could find a station with at least regular unleaded and pretty much everybody had diesel.

Just shy of 2000 miles on the truck this past weekend.

Thurs night we took in the "Tarheel 50" at Tri County Raceway in Brasstown, NC.

Fri night we headed over to Rome, GA for the Lucas Oil "Rome Rumble" at Rome Speedway man that track is BAD FAST WOW!!!!!! Billy Moyer set fast time with a 12.9 he never lifted during his qualifying run. Of course this race was awesome to me because my favorite driver won Earl Pearson Jr.

Sat night we headed over to Woodstock, GA for the "Dixie Shootout" at Dixie Speedway not quite as fast as Rome but man was it awesome. Earl Pearson Jr set a new track record in qualifying with a 13.8. Shannon Babb was the race winner in this one.

Sounds like a weekend I'd love to be at. I'm seeing a lot a chatter on other boards about the call on Bloomquist and sending him to the back, what's your take?

We were parked right where it happened coming out of turn two, I saw it as they both stopped on the track. I have not seen the DirtonDirt video because I'm not a subscriber but alot of people are saying on that video you can see he really slowed to a crawl but didn't stop. I don't know cause I coulda swore he stopped. In my opinion yes he took Jimmy Owens out just like he almost did to Babb two laps earlier. When they threw the caution and Jimmy left the track Bloomquist stopped on the front stretch for almost two laps I couldn't tell if the officials were talking to him or not from our spot. When he started going again he was creaping along the track with his left hand in the air for several laps I did see an official on the back stretch stop and talk to him but he kept up with his parade lap, finally they sent a wrecker out on the track to remove him but upon seeing that he left on his own. I saw him display his fist, his middle finger, and his pointer and pinky at the same time. My opinion that he tried to take out Babb and Owens is based on the fact that for 45 laps Bloomquist ran pretty much the same line and was smooth lap after lap he wasn't running anywhere near the top side like Babb was but as soon as Babb showed him the nose on the outside the next lap Bloomquist wants to run way up top in 3&4 right about the time Babb is on his outside. Same thing with Owens after Bloomquist knocked Babb over the cushion in 3&4 Owens moved up to second and tried the inside of Bloomquist in 1&2 Bloomquist shut the door, next lap in 1&2 Owens went to the outside of Bloomquist and Bloomquist tried to run him up over the cushion like he had done to Babb but Owens didnt give and spun with a left front flat in front of Bloomquist and it sure looked like Bloomquist stopped to us.

Man it was a LOT of FUN!!!! All three of the tracks we went to were really fast, high banked, and smooth. The racing at all 3 tracks was great, guys coming from the back making a charge to the front. Did I mention how FAST the tracks were? LOL It was a really great time, next year I think we are going to put together an Eldora trip either the World or the Dream.

2 years ago, I went up for the Rome/Dixie Doubleheader. Both are great tracks, but Rome is in a different league than (alomst) anything else out there. The cars come through turn 4 faster than most tracks can produce by the end of the straights. For anyone that's never been there, you owe it to yourselves to try. You'll NEVER be sorry you did! Great track, beautifull scenery, and huge car counts... not to mention that every race in every class has passing galore!

As a side note, I read where the Talladega Short Track pulled an amazing 175 cars into the pits on Saturday night... 44 of them were Late Models.

I remember you talking about your trip up there, when you took it two years ago. You ain't a lyin when you say they come thru four on rails we trackside parked right in the middle of 3&4, needless to say by the end of the night we were covered head to toe in that dark red Georgia clay.

I got a video of them coming thru 3&4 I'll get posted up on youtube a little later.
