  • No Fuel in Georgia!

I know a lot of Karnicians are thinking about coming to North Georgia for the dirt late model races at Rome and Dixie this coming weekend. As of today (Sunday), there is a major gasoline shortage in the north Georgia area, including metro Atlanta. People are camping overnight at gas stations just hoping a fuel tanker will arrive at some point to fill the station tanks. 9 of 10 stations have NO fuel and the few stations that do have fuel have long lines, stretching miles. I am not trying to sound an alarm, but rather warn race fans of the situation. Case in point, I qualified on Friday night for the Georgia State Asphalt Championships at Lanier Speedway, I could not find ANY station in my area (Cobb County) that had fuel so I did not make the race on Saturday night.
Hopefully, the situation will get better as the week goes on. I will keep you updated and look forward to meeting some folks at Rome Speedway on Friday night.

Yea a buddy and I are headin up for these races plus a Thurs show at Tri County in Brasstown NC. We are bringin his diesel with the tank in the bed so as not to have to worry about the fuel shortage. A buddy of ours in the Atlanta area was tellin us how bad it is up there. We'll be in a white 4dr F-250, 3 of us backed up to the fence so we can enjoy the "King of Beers" during the races.

      Hey Rick,
The diesel supply seems O.K., very little 87 octane, absolutely no 89, 92 or 93 octane. The station near my home sells Sunoco race fuel and people were putting it in their street cars at $8.99 a gallon. They've been out of race fuel for over a week.

This is just another way for the big oil companys to put to us. make you think there is a shortage of fuel and run the price up. Then when the price goes up here comes the gas. we got gas in Fl and got to go right by geogia to get it here. Good luck up there hope up get gas soon Just remeber this before you put nobama in office and we will have to race elect cars.

          tough times

Sorry to hear about the shortage you are all experiencing... considering the economy and then having to pay a premium for a needed thing.

What does nobama have to do with the current gas situation?I think the best thing we can do is throw the constitution in the toilet and make your hero G.W. Bush president for life so we can continue to enjoy these prosperous economic times for the rest of our lives.

NC has been short for a week now, 1 in 15 stations with gas, but they say it will get better this week. The reason is refining in Texas and it took this long for the bulk plants to run low.

I was full up with all my vehicles so i haven't been stuck in the lines, which is made worst by the people who have a 1/2 tank or better but want to fill up along with the 10 gas cans they bought at wal mart.

                    You can't fix stupid.

Even the news said to stay on your normal schedule so the peeps who were really out could get gas.

We've had fights and actually 1 shooting over gas......imagine if we were fighting over something we REALLY need.

The problem in Georgia and the Carolinas is they mostly get their supplies through the Colonial Pipline, which runs from the Gulf all the way up to the northeast. The Colonial was shut down before Ike hit, and it has not been able to catch up with demand since. Eventually this will subside, but until then it's gonna suck in high demand regions like Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville-Spartanburg, and Raleigh-Durham.

Why is there no gas in Ga, when there is gas every where else? I just got a call that they have cancelled our UDLMCS race in Screven because of the gas situation. The feul in Fl. is coming down a little, I paid $3.89 for diesel Sat night in Tampa. Bob.....

The Following is from the Track Forum up in SC GA. The promoter for Screven, REDD, is as honest and truthful as the day is long. The man loves his racing and his track and well he should it is a fine track with GOOD FOOD, great seating and he takes care of his fans and people. No I DO NOT WORK FOR HIM. He lowered his pit fee to $15.00 for this past Saturday and the stands where EMPTY! At his track you pay ONE price for, PITS, DRAG STRIP, Grandstands AND dirt track. I drove up from Florida and stopped because I had promised to sponsor the OWM Dash for cash which I did do. Gas going up was no problem, filled up by the track $3.79 then drove to my other house in Aiken S.C. again no problem with fuel and the prices where $3.79 to a high of $4.25 at a little po-dunk station on the way up. I will bet you that the gas deal will be fine as wine in about a week or less.

the last 2 races @ SMS the fan count has been very low !

ive tried everything from advertising to fan giveaways.

5 drivers from nc called said they could not get gas !
2 drivers from charlotte said they were sqeeking by
to make it hunting for gas to come down !

a friend. alan mock lives in Augusta, he came down and said folks
were fighting in line for only 10 gallons.
small towns like millen,ga were completely out
it was reported that in atlanta all the stations on
the interstate were out of gas.

i thought all of this was over friday, when gas was plentiful
                            in savannah @ $3.52 gal.
then drivers coming thru the carolinas report this-----
                            i don't know,because i wasn't there,but this has been the
                            report from some !!

                            --------------------------------------------------------
i spoke with both series, their drivers are concerned with
the cost of travel with this distance from fl - s.ga
and far as n ga to nc.
                            ----------------------------------------------------------

right now --the economy is shot to h:ll,
i love racing,i think we have good racing @sms
but fans/some drivers can't put it in the budget to come !

it's getting harder for me to keep paying for it
                            out of pocket !

the dragstrip will run only this weekend,it makes money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i really want to call it the season, but i must
finish out the points for my classes.

we will run the ga state race with our 5 local
classes and payout-------- i have already paid $500
for 5 trophies 6 ft. tall for slm - to renegade.

those interested in racing will come and it will
decide the 2008 points championship !

iam very sorry having to cut some of the 2008 schedule,
but iam not howard hughes of money.instead of losing
money racing,i would rather put more improvements
                            to the facility for 2009.
