Attention all track owners and staff

NEVER under any circumstances accept race passes from Joe Jacalone or Phil Jaques.(for that matter inspect their money carefully if paying in cash to see if it has a picture of Richard Nixon on the front of it ) (thanks though now I dont feel nearly as guilty for cheating my way through high school biology class)

Actually Mr. Joe Jacalone has purchased pit passes for me on more than one occasion. Thanks again Joe.

And funnin' around is funnin' around, but they are both stand up guys (get to the 24 hour shindig early to actually see Phil standing).

Hell, when I was a kid we went to the Firecracker for years, bought cheap seats and then snuck up to the better (and empty) seats when the race began.

      Led by dear old Dad.

And I wish that was the biggest sin I needed forgiveness for...

Personally I've been such a model citizen I have never took part in any such things.lol (Pinocchio nose growing)But on the other hand I could start a whole different thread about stupid(life endangering) things I've done just to race.Ahh to be young and dumb and live long enough to talk about it.

OS, you more than earned the passes, and I appreciate your help & friendship. Back in the day when I was sneaking in, I knew NO ONE in racing, and didn't have a clue on how to get a pit pass. Fortunately, my Sicilian heritage came shining thru and I figured out an alternative plan I think we should start a thread where us old guys tell some of our old racing tales. I would love to hear some of the stories out there.

              It's Race Day!

              @ 2:45 pm or so.

Rain due tomorrow afternoon, and the Taylor-Caddy-Thingie is on the pole.

              That's all I got.

If more informed others wish to provide updates that will be great.

The whole Daytona "Motorsports Stadium" is pretty cool, but it comes with a price. Tickets for the Rolex 24 are up to $70 for "stadium access" and infield. Am I confused, or was that same ticket about $30 just a year or two ago?

I can attest that the crowd in the stands was immense; much larger than I ever remember. The fun in the infield was great as usual too. It is truly a race atmosphere like no other that I know of.

And I stopped by Camp Yankee and met Phil J. He had quite an installation going there, and thanks for the beer bud!

Waiting on the wife to get ready...

                  Found this regarding race updates:

"The #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac withdrew after sustaining yet another right-rear puncture at the start of the 17th hour, the car's seventh of the race. With no answers to the cause of the repeated issues, team boss Wayne Taylor opted to retire the car."--Jamie Klein

I don't believe that boy has a background in stock car racing...

I think the price has been around $70 for several years now. We went after 6pm and got grandstand only tickets for $20, but if you leave you can't come back in after midnite.

It was 35 a couple years back I believe. The 4 day wristband cost hasnt gone up though thankfully. I think since Chitwood moved on from DIS the changes in price have happened.

It was a great weekend and aside frim a brief shower, the weather was absolutely PERFECT! Thanks for stopping by and anytime! It was great to meet you, your son and wife. Great times had by all for sure!

The old saying still applies: "Ya gotta give the customer what they want." Apparently what they want is Wi-Fi, phone chargers and easy chairs. The "racing stadium", like any modern airport, mall or restaurant, has its own Wi-Fi and lots of phone charging stations. What I did not expect to see was the number of easy chairs for screen addicted people to slouch in and play with their phones. Remember, they are a few feet from a world-class race that is zooming by live and unscripted, but so many chose to lay back and stare at their phones instead. Pretty sad, actually.

I can see your point, however in the case of a weekend like this past, those amentities were sure nice. I'm sure in the event of a rain delay at NASCAR races it really helps keeps fans there rather than scurrying back to their cars and potentially leaving all together.
