  • Sportsman car owners @ Desoto and Auburndale

Need to know what cars out there with big rule differences with New Smyrna. Mainly in engine rules. Looking to bring all 3 tracks to a common set of rules and going to crates engines eventually. Email thoughts and answers to rickybrooks5@aol.com. not really interested in your thoughts if your not racing or currently a driver or car owner and won't be a discussion on here. Thanks

Why would you make it a all crate class? Take engine builders out of the equation? I think the race at Desoto was great and had both running together. Some people prefer crates and others don't why not let the racers do what the want. Just my 2 cents.

And that right there is why it is so hard to do ANYTHING to make progress in racing...you could say you are giving out $100 bills and somebody would find a problem with how you were doing it.

Ricky, the goal is a great one, to have the tracks on the same page rules wise - stay after it!

I have no issue with unifying the rules at all the tracks, guess you didn't read my post. I said why make it an all crate class? If you have a crate motor it's not an issue, but if you don't then your looking at spending 5-7k to change over. I am all for getting the rules uniform between Desoto A Dale and New Symrna but don't help me save money by making me spend money. And if your gonna hand out 100 dollar bills I will be in that line.

Mr Brooks. I personally would love to have the rules all the same through out the state. But if that means we all change to newsymrna rules then I disagree. The intake they are running is what we use on bomber cars. No good. We are allllwed msd which is nice but I think I may be the only one running it. Lol so if that changed it wouldn't break my heart. But we are allowed so I have it. The clutch difference is really no big deal with the weight penalty. I have big clutch in mine. Newsymrna has a bigger cam rule. We have 525 max lift. Does not specify in newsyrna. As for the crate motors. The top 4 finishers at the desoto race were crate motors. So built motors are not running away. If anything the crates seem to have an edge. I would be out if we went to crates. There are way more money in cheated up crates out there. Maybe if we list or someone lists the differences in the rules across the state and we come to common rules and not just copy one tracks rules it can be done. I know some were crying that the desoto cars had big motors ect. But it was not the case in the end was it. Stuart VanDevender36 sportsman. P.s. Had fun with all the drivers that showed. Good racing.

                why change?

Why change? We are getting good COMPETIVE car counts at most tracks and fairly equal. Im all for rules being the same just not all CRATES.

                  Same as always

Every time a "good thing" gets going, lets change it. What a joke.

                    y change it

y change to crates only. i just got in the class and if u were to make it crate only engines it would cost me about $8000.00 to $9000.00 to
convert and i would be out already.

Guys, chill out a bit. Read what Ricky Brooks wrote. All of if and in the context in which it was presented. He said "eventually", he didn't say built motors were gettig the axe tomorrow. The man is no fool, he knows what he's doing.

                        I

believe he has this question out there for Desoto and A-dale because he is the tech for the new series at these tracks. it sounds like his intent is to level the playing field for this series. Cudo's to Mr. Brooks for that. The sportsmen rules have been all over the place for a while. We parked ours because of that reason. Its a great class and just like All the other classes we need one set of rules for all the tracks. Its just the right thing to do. As (Easy to pass said)........good luck getting them all on the same page. At least this man is consious of the issues.

Do tell how it would cost that much to covert over to crate ? break it down for us considering at crate cost about 3200,00 .

                            crate cost

sorry was wrong on price. at least $6000.00 to change over. around $3500 for engine,$1500 for new 4 barrel carburetor,$600.00 for new clutch assembly, different headers and any other misc. stuff like pulleys and stuff.

                              Crate

$3200 for motor, a carb is right at a $1000 for a good one, can use same headers all you have to do is die grind the bolt holes to move headers up a little, can use same pulleys and water pump from built motors, if you run a 10 1/2 clutch all you need is a flywheel which is only like $90 from jegs, use same plug wires then change some gears which most sportsmans have quick changes anyways so $70 for gears.
