I've not heard anything official, BUT, I've heard multiple reports that a former owner of a Citrus County Disposal company got the lease and the new lease stipulates the track be repaved before it reopens. Also heard that a certain number of years had to paid in advance. I've heard between 4 and 8 years. Again, this all hearsay.

They're working out the details, shouldn't be long.

It would be nice to see a track reopen. However, that is a lot to go in the hole for. Hope he got a lot for his company when he sold it.

                  From Facebook:
Get your cars off the jackstands! The track will soon be back!

Citrus County Speedway soon will have a new lease holder. William Ray, former owner of FDS Disposal and family have stepped up and will make the track a great place again to race and take the family.

For those who do not know William Ray, he started FDS with basically a van and turned the business into a multi million dollar operation. The guy is a self made businessman and knows how to get things done. He recently sold FDS.The Ray family have been patrons of the Speedway for 30+ years with three generations as racers.

According to Facebook posts from the family, a tentative opening date is in the fall. Regardless of when they open, we need to support them. This is the BEST news that the Speedway has had in a very long time.

I am sure we will see an "official" press release or statement within the next week but this is what is known to be fact at this time.

                    Track Change?

So, in the "what if" dept...

Citrus always looked a little odd coming out of four to me. I suspect it sort of "crowns", or loses bank through there, creating a natural tendency for the cars to head for the front stretch wall.

For those that drive it, would you:

                    A) Like to see the transition(s) from the corners changed up a little bit to make it more predictable, or

                    B) Hey, it's Citrus, that is what makes it unique, throw a coat of asphalt on it and call it a day!

From what I remember watching my dad there in a late model before they reconfigured the back stretch it wasn't like that back then. I say pave it and leave the configuration the same

Agreed... I always sit in turn 4 whenever I go there, as most of the passing gets set up right there, and turn 3 is where you see the "dump & run".
                        Entertaining either way....

I could use 3 different lines into turn 3 for the same number of options off of 4. I wouldn't change it. Fun track.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

Re: Track configuration feedback--should be good (and cheaper) input for the new owners.

From the article in the Citrus Chronicle-- “We’re going to change the whole atmosphere,” [New Promoter/lease holder William Ray] said. “We’re going to make this the premier racetrack in the Southeast.” All that sounds positive!

A suggestion: Figure out how to get the fans into the backstretch grandstands. The afternoon sun is brutal.
