Desoto thinking about American Racer Tires

Just heard that Desoto is considering the American Racer tire for the Modifieds, just what we need another tire to run on top of the F53 at Showtime and R750 at every other track.

Just put another nail in the coffin of the modified drivers and teams. Do not sit on this we need to voice our concerns. I will be calling the track tomorrow.

Southern Race fuels

Auburndale and Desoto along with Southern Race fuels have put a 12 race schedule together . American Race tires will be the new tire . Ricky Brooks will be in charge .

Yoho has all the tires he needs, I was going to run Desoto this year and not Auburndale now we are going to stay at Showtime. Does this mean that NSS is going to The American Racer as well if Ricky is involved

These tracks put the money from the Tire company over the racer,
Has anyone tested this tire ( all new setup )
When were we going to hear this from the tracks

The American Racer is being used for the 12race series for super late models! It is explained on speed51. Nothing was mentioned about the other classes! Maybe we don't need to jump the gun!

Here we go again

Apparently we just do not learn from our past mistakes. We have done this to ourselves before. Racers cannot afford to buy 3 different types of tires. We all fought hard for slicks . We got them. Every track ran them and car counts improved at all tracks.

Then last year here come the treaded hoosier again.....They told us that they werent making slicks anymore ( Huge Lie). Yoho wont run out because his tire man gets new shipments weekly from hoosier.

They went to the treaded because the sportsman and street stocks run them. Buy in bulk and get cheaper prices.......period

How hard is it to get one set of rules and one type of tire. I think it would be relatively easy. If a racer doesnt have to change his car....Can practice on tires he already has mounted and buy new of the same kind it is a win win for track and racer.

Maybe we need to start a open wheel modified driver /owner coalation.

I do think it needs to be pointed out that Robert ran the tires at Showtime that the competitors wanted to run, outside of "the best deal" for him.

The cars series dumped American Racer tires after something like 24 failures at Orange county and the cars drivers were bailing out on Nashville and Concord so they went to the F45s like we run down here on slms. I would hope they have fixed the problems as Desoto has the highest RF load numbers in Fl. and will kill cars if they fail. I don't know any thing about the mod tires but changing brands is always a PIA.

This is one of those times where I am happy to be a spectator, rather then a racer. I can only hope to believe they are making this switch, to save the racer money. Maybe the American Racer tires are 100 bucks a set cheaper? My history with them back 20 years ago, is they did last longer, times fell off less, but at the end of the day, I needed a set for practice, and a set for the race, so the saving was minimal.

If the tracks are switching to make more profit, and there is no big savings for the racer, I would say bad move?

To the owner of Desoto

Denny you need to rethink what just happened, you just dropped this on everyone without a drop of feedback from the racers. You may have had a couple teams come test but the majority did not. You plan on running this tire with most teams having no experience on them at your track.

We race where the F45 is going to be run, you could have eased this tire on us over the new year. Just like the R750 was introduced over the last 2 years.

I just read the news release on Speed 51, why did it get introduced that way. You all were afraid this would happen.

I cannot speak for the 750 tire. As everyone knows I was not a fan and after racing them only 1 time I am still not a fan. There are alot of mod guys who ran them and some like them. I spoke to a sprtsman driver just a few weeks ago and he said it was the 5th race on them..........and he was quick.

The 750 is no cheaper than the f-53

A few years back Punta gorda was on goodyear auburndale was on americans and i think citrus was on the white hoosier. this did not work out well

If you want to draw cars from all the different tracks then you have to give the racer the most economical way to do it.......Same rules and same tires at all tracks.

It is a 700 dollar night when you strap on 4 tires . Now if i dont have to change my car except for set up i have 4 practice tires for another track and possibly race tires.

Buying a completely new set of tires to race a different track is stupid and not gonna happen on a budget. Some guys are already doing it with the slicks and treaded............now lets change brands ????/

I have run both at Desoto. Typically we practice on tires we last raced. With going from 50 lap old slicks in practice to Stickers I normally pick up about three tenths. Last time I ran Desoto we were on the R750 and practice on tires that had one 50 lap race on them, we bolted on sticker R750s and picked up half a second over 50 lap old tires. THE TREADED TIRES DO NOT LAST ANY LONGER, STICKERS ARE STILL QUICKER THAN USED TIRES.

long story short.... TREADED TIRES ARE NOT SAVING ANYONE ANY MONEY, IF YOU WANT TO RUN UP FRONT YOU ARE STILL BOLTING 4 STICKERS ON EVERY NIGHT.

Doug, If that is the case (on modifieds) would completely agree.

As you know, some advocate "everyone all getting along" and frequently I point out it ain't going to happen.

In this case, although that may be true, I would suggest it is incredibly short sited of anyone to introduce a 3rd tire into the mix.

Two theoretical "upsides"--American Racer is somehow more profitable for the track(s) to run, and/or they intend to get cars away from Showtime and keep them for themselves.

It looks like short fields to me--but not for Showtime.

Like Microsoft, imo it is better to be with Yoho than agin' him.
