  • Eldora

Just a reminder NASCAR is having one of their few real races tonight at Eldora on the dirt. Unfortunately it will be shown on FS1 time trials at 8 racing at 9. It is fairly clear to me that the Networks are paying NASCAR for the TV rights then putting the show on the fledgling sports networks that they hope will one day compete with ESPN.

I missed it when it was on pay per view, i'll have to miss it on FS1 also. Lot's of race fans would tune in for this one if it were available on channels most fans receive. I agree about the networks paying these series, and it looks like it's FOX on their FS1 channel that's trying to dominate things.

              Prelude

Actually as mentioned the Trucks have always been on the Fox network. Tony's Prelude to a Dream for the Cup drivers had the first one on cable then went to Pay-per-View, which is probably why the misunderstanding. Just watched the two practice sessions and tonight's show is shaping up to be the best ever, although Kyle Larson will not be in the field. Kesolowski running the #29 truck was having a hard time adjusting to the dirt but I am sure he will be just fine. #63 of Pearce (Pierce) sp) should also have a good run. NSS track champ Black, Jr did better in the first session but was about mid pack at the end of the second. Both Dillon's are on hand and Austin may repeat his win of the first event in 2013. Hope everyone can watch the race ....also a replay early tomorrow morn on Fox Sports.

Yep, my mistake. It was the Prelude that was on pay per view.

I literally can't watch golf. I've tried and it always happens, I fall asleep. Enjoy your nap this evening.

Crappy track for qualifying, great crowd but in all fairness to NASCAR Eldora is so far out in the sticks you go for the whole show as it is the only show in town. The high temp there today was in the low 80s so if they lay enough water down should be a good track for the racing. So much more entertaining than the cookie cutter circuit.

Best race of the year out of any of the top 5 NASCAR divisions... Probably the best race in the past 15 years out of any of them... NASCAR needs more Dirt Tracks and Road Courses on all of their schedules... It even got talks rolling on doing this once again...

Thank you for the vid, Phil.

In my opinion, that car looks miles "cooler" than current dirt cars.

Somewhere along the way, like asphalt motors and shocks, the dirt crowd decided attaching the wheels to the chassis with a slinky was the way to go.

Between that and the rear-steer, if they lift or have an "altercation", the cars wallow like a field full of powder puff derby wives--that have been drinking.

So they are faster, they are all faster, so it is a net-net break even deal, except the cars and the competition have suffered.

East bay used to be exciting, now they just drone around laying on the passenger side door.

Back in the day, you would see the same cars on dirt or asphalt.

Apologies if I have offended any of the dirt crowd.

We were *at* Eldora for the third straight year for the Trucks.

Bobby Pierce - all of 18 years old - was *the show* this year. The kid dive-bombed *everyone* who managed to get around him like a Japanese fighter pilot in World War II. Hated to see all of the cautions for silly spins. There was a TON of action all through the field, not just up front and what was shown on TV. Three-, four-, and even sometimes five-wide all night long. Ol' Norm raced his way into the field this year through his heat race - and didn't have to make the consi. Keselowski....*ehhh*. Didn't look all that great, and, during the feature, managed to thoroughly destroy his Ford by parking in the turn-two wall - but never got a caution. He stayed out on the track mostly because he couldn't get down low after wrecking; trucks going by on both sides. When he finally managed to get to pit road, found out they had a broken right-rear trailing arm, according to the radio communications (my wife listened to "her driver" all night on the scanner). Said he didn't wanna take a chance on coming into the pits and spinning the truck getting on to pit road and possibly hitting someone (there's no "pit wall" for the safety of the crews at Eldora, so no "hot pit stops").

Action all through the field - Nemechek, Schrader, Hemric (isn't he a "Florida boy"?), Crafton, the Dillons...all worked the front half of the field at some point and made it a *decent* race.

I'm in the process of uploading pics to FaceBook; will post some here when I get 'em up.
