"Waterford has no useful area to drift. And we have no problem attracting cars and fans."--The High Latitudes Drifter
I think I see. Your track doesn't need drifting because the show is good. Ours isn't so we need drifting.
Maybe we could just cut directly to the "good" Waterford Show and how it got there. And, IMO opinion, that is precisely what Yoho is doing, and exactly what I am supporting with my ticket purchase.
NSS, Auburndale, & Desoto as well.
But hey, if you think drifting down here (but not up there) is a good thing, feel free to lobby for it.

Have I not mentioned multiple times in the past I thought Yoho was doing a decent job? Smh... You never cease to amaze me with your only seeing and reading what you want to.
In FL adding drifting to an oval card is a feeble attempt to get people to the track. Fix the problem. Don't try and slap more temporary bandaids on it.
We will gave a drift demo Wednesday at Thompson. We will also have 20+ cars per divison and a packed grandstand. We have it as an expo to fill time between practice, heats, time trials for the tour and racing as a BONUS, not as the main reason people came...
And here we have the Lanier GA repurposed drift track,,,
I have heard rumors, that they may still hold special event stock car events there still with temporary barriers. If that's true, it's at least not a total loss. Either way, at least it's not a Walmart...
Phil is right. Due to a combination of bad, lazy and cheap practices the show has gotten boring and that's the major reason for the poor crowds here. Entertainment is what people are seeking. Here's a list of how to improve that for everyone's amusement since I expect zero tracks to actually do it.
Handicap the fields. Even with a small field there will be passing. Only takes third grade math skills.
Put two announcers in the booth so that people can listen to an interesting conversation instead of a carnival barker. Require mufflers so the crowd can hear them.
Have something going on to entertain people between races.
Make the show tight. Constant action. Out the pit gate, green next time by, checker and off the track on the backstretch. Obviously Winners interviews.
Traction treatment in the outside groove. Two wide racing is exciting. One groove root off the bottom causing stupid yellows is boring.
Run heats, can time trials.
Encourage good looking race cars. Offer "Best Appearing" awards. Make people give a crap about what their car looks like. If it looks like junk it ain't appealing.
There is mucho competition for people's entertainment dollar these days. In FL there is more than anywhere. Give the people something exciting to watch and they will come.
Ok end of rant. Every track can officially ignore this post (as I'm sure they will).
.....And I know some places are doing a few of these things. But if you are not doing ALL of these things then you are not making the necessary attempt to make racing ENTERTAINING...
A fairly obvious solution is for the tracks to put on a drifting show during intermission at a stock car event. Lord knows the usual intermission entertainment is non-existent. Unless you like listening to the announcers idea of good music ( haven't heard Megadeath yet ) through the few speakers that actually work. It won't happen because the track owners want people at the concession stands during intermission. But here's an idea anyway.
Anyway, invite some of the best local drift cars and give the fans an idea of what drifting is all about. I remember years ago at OSW during the PRI Show, the USAC cars ran. And during the night, there was a drifting demonstration. Crowd seemed to really enjoy it. And i know that crowd didn't come to the track because they heard drifting was gonna happen. I watched a top fuel dragster do a burnout down the front stretch at IRP one night before the Busch Race. The crowd ate it up.
Then, in the " how did you like the show, what can we do to improve " sheet that all tracks hand out to the fans each night, they will get feedback on the interest in drifting as a regular class.
>So you buy stuff from the concession stand
>(Maybe) to also build excitement for the Features
So, by default, having an "event" during intermission makes it...not intermission.
BUT, in the name of building excitement AND selling hot dogs, why not encourage/allow one or two cars at a time to practice for say, five laps each during intermission? Another thing they did successfully (like heats instead of qualifying) back in the day.
It would break up the monotony and yet you could go buy stuff if you wanted without feeling like you were "missing" something.
At the very least, IMO, an intermission should be no more than 20 minutes.
