It's quite sad, but that's exactly how the world is these days. And Matt appears to be in the "everybody gets a participation medal" category as opposed to the people who live in the real world where you either win or lose. I can see in your post that you think just as much as I do that Matt is a left leaning liberal moron.Originally posted by OldSchool+ View PostJC--Let me take a swing/guess at the mindset here.
I pretty much explained capitalism in my last post. That is, how many widgets can I sell @$1 vs how many @ $3 and what nets the most coin?
That is Yohos end.
The consumer, racer in this case, decides whether to consume or not. If he/them all consume, the track does well, if not, well...not.
BUT THESE DAYS, everyone with one dollar more that I have is a villain. From the oil companies to Walmart to folks celebrating Passover, if they are successful that just isn't "fair".
And there is always a straw argument (IE "them") to stay cranked up about.
Ironically, we are trading our freedom and potential future for the promise of "fairness", but like a lottery ticket, what you actually get is LESS than capitalism can provide.
Swell, huh?
The fact of the matter is, Showtime and Desoto take care of the Mods. Showtime is just closer to me and in my opinion a little more challenging being that it's a bullring so I'm a little biased. Yoho does do things wrong at times in my opinion, but he does a lot more right. If you don't want to go to a place, then don't. I don't like Auburndale, and as far as I'm concerned, Rex Guy has done enough stupid shit there that I have no desire to go back. However, I don't come on here and bash the place to the heavens, or bash Rex about how he wants to run HIS*race track, I simply make the concious decision to spend MY money elsewhere. Same thing as Matt should do. The sooner he realizes that racing won't get back to where it used to be no matter how much he bitches and moans, he will pull the stick out of his ass and be thankful that there's still a race track to go to.

Ironically, in the old days things were probably less "fair", but the complaining was less.
Ask Wendell Scott (well, his kids now...).
Incidentally, for those that have not seen it, "Greased Lightning" is second only to the recent F1 flick "Rush" in my book.
As Jimmy Cope once said "If you want to be The Man, you have to beat The Man!"

Ask the racers Matt.
Matt, I race pretty regularly between Showtime and Desoto. Some things are required to race, and in most racers opinion, they're worth it. The reason that there will be a field of good cars is because we all realize that Yoho goes above and beyond to help the racers (a fuel jug is actually a pretty cool idea, and it's appreciated).
Let's just say this....Yoho is taking out the insurance policy FOR THE RACERS to pay either $5k or $10k for the fast qualifier to take the challenge and go to the rear. He doesn't have to do that (but he still is). If there are 25 cars that show up, and there is a $50 entry fee, then that is an extra $1,250. Which is about how much it is for the $10k payday.
If he asked the racers if we would be willing to pay $50 each for the "challenge" I would assume that a lot of us would pay it...I know that I would gladly do it, which is why my trailer will be one of the first ones there on Friday.
What you're complaining about is ridiculous...I'm going next weekend to win, and it's not often that I go to the track without spending that much money anyways. It's become pretty normal to expect 30 or so racecars at the big races that Showtime puts on, and there's no reason for this one to be any different (obviously something is being done right, donthca say?).

Boy, the reading comprehension skills in this country just make you weep. For all of those having trouble following my train of thought, and there's plenty of you, let's go over it one more time.
I don't give a damn if you racers see fit to spend $5000 each to race at Showtime for the 4th Annual Pinellas Park Championship. That's not the issue.
The issue is this. You seem to think that 26 cars or so is a full field. Yes, i suppose you might think that in todays racing climate. 26 cars is only considered a full field because that's all the cars that are left. Or can afford to race. I don't happen to think that 26 cars is a full field. I've seen twice that many show up for races in the past.
There's no one on this board that thinks the cost of racing is where it needs to be. There's no one on this board that thinks racing could probably be made even more expensive, and still all the cars would come out to race. I'd say the general consensus is that racing is far too expensive, and that more and more race cars are being parked everyday because of it. So that being the case, i think it's extremely short sighted of the track owners to go ahead and continue raping the racers. Forcing the racers to foot the bill, forcing the racers to spend more and more money for no good reason.
Are constantly increasing costs for the racer just part of racing, and like the wealthy owm racers above, they'll happily live with it to help ol Yoho put on the show? Those of us in the stands have watched the fields shrink year after year. WE'RE GETTING LESS AND LESS OF A SHOW FOR OUR MONEY. A LOT OF FANS HAVE ALREADY STOPPED GOING TO THE TRACKS BECAUSE OF IT.The racers all say they're parking their cars or not racing as often because it's just crazy expensive to race now. And Yoho, like many other track owners in Florida, being completely oblivious to the problem, continue to drive up the costs even more with the needless forced purchase of tires and gas. Meaning even fewer cars on the track.Last edited by Matt Albee; 04-03-2015, 04:24 PM.

Most don't Joe. My posts don't need a response, no ones posts do. That's not what a message board is about. It's strictly for expressing your opinion. I have some. I'll continue to express them.Originally posted by jacko241 View PostI am convinced this Albee guy is a troll. I wouldn't even respond to his posts if I were you guys.

Wealthy has nothing to do with it. Sponsors do though. I'm far from wealthy.
If I recall, the last two big money shows that Yoho has put up, there have been at least 38 cars at both trying to make the show....Please tell me this is considered a full field in your eyes.
This seems to be an issue that you have, and quite frankly you and very few others. Racers that have the passion to run good and chase wins will find ways to make it happen. I couldn't do anything I do without sponsorship. I also work 40 hours a week, and I, myself, pay my fuel bill. It doesn't take 50 cars to have a good race, you're hurting racing just as much as Yoho is by complaining on the internet, and then not showing up on Saturday's....but wait, I'm sure you do...somewhere..
We would obviously all love to see the cost of racing go down, but we've all accepted reality.

Would you guess that there are only 38 owms left? I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. And no, i don't consider a field of 38, if he even gets that many, to be a full field. This isn't a weekly race or a double points night. After all, this is a big money race for the Pinellas Championship. Money like that should pack the place with owms from all over. So let's see how many show up.

Matt, would you be interested in sponsoring a modified for next week?
Anything helps!
Thanks

You're probably one of those people that still doesn't believe that the world is round...
I agree with the troll comment. Props to you though, you're a persistent little troll guy.
And I'd hope to only hear a negative comment about the car count if you actually attend the race. Please don't bother with criticism if you don't even show up.Last edited by racin24dev; 04-03-2015, 04:57 PM.

Matt, for the record I don't have a problem with you per se, and you are entitled to your thoughts.
I would suggest that we are in agreement regarding costs/car count. But Dude, Showtime ain't broken. They have great car counts week in and week out.
Yoho and the lovely Mrs Yoho are the poster children for how it is done.
Where I disagree is that I believe the promoters should look at the rules and make sure they are conducive to cheap race cars.
And, if they do that, there will be more of them and more money for admissions/race gas/tires/slabs/insurance/fines/whatever.
From there, from Yoho to Rick Hendrick, I do not begrudge them their fortunes, nor do I begrudge Gordo or David Rodgers theirs.
It is a choice to spend the money. Most guys can afford the track fees.
$10K and up motors? $6K shocks? Those are what keep a car under a tarp.Last edited by OldSchool+; 04-03-2015, 05:26 PM.
