I will warn any potential newbies:

Count on hearing sports cars in your head for a couple of days afterwards.

Not like imagination, like they are there.

Think Kawasaki doing 100mph or better as it blows by you on the interstate.

Rolex Update Somewhere around the 9 hour mark...

Reflections in no particular order, and possibly of no particular importance, and totally without TV or other rational coverage:

            >The Corvettes--all of them in both the Prototype and "GTLM" class are exceptionally beautiful racecars.

            >The ligiers, not so much .

            >The Segway, er, Deltawing, seems to have retired early. Emotionally, I seem to be fine with that...

            >The Wayne Taylor car and the Ganassi cars (including one driven in part by K Larson & J McMurray) are very strong.

            >The field, front to back, is the closest I can recall in speed & quality of equipment.

            >I briefly attended the Rolex Suds-a-thon, met Scott Garrity & Boneman, two very gracious and interesting fellers.

Now a few hours sleep and back to the cold in the AM.

Well, another Rolex is in the books.

At the end, the fastest car & the best pit strategy won the race.

Congrats to the Ganassi team & Scott Dixon & his co-drivers Kyle Larson, Jamie Mac& Tony Kanaan.

Final thoughts: Anybody know if we need to raise bail money for Mr Jacques or did he make it out of the place intact?

I made it out fine haha I spent a bit of time in the stands at the finish with Scott, just couldn't make it to his gig sadly. Wish I could have met you man, next time. It's looking like I may be down for 2 of the 3 ACT races. Will know more for certain next week. I thought it was set in stone but things are changing cause of the added race.

What a great time had by all at the Rolex 24. For a few on my crew it was their first time and I made sure they got the full experience (including a pre dawn trip to the garage to see the few teams thrashing at fixing their wounded and tired rides in hopes of completing the whole 24 hours, a victory in itself). Amazing competition this year in the Prototype and GTLM classes with cars battling in packs for a good bunch of the 24 hours and 2-3 cars in each of those classes within striking distance of one another right up to the checkers! The new grandstands and improvements at DIS are awesome. Anyone sitting in the new top third of the grandstand will easily be able to see the racing around the entire track! The bathrooms have been remodeled and by their design should handle the immense traffic a yellow in the 500 would cause and easily get guys in and out while relieving the used SUDS. I am most appreciative of the new ESCALATORS! These babies easily whisk you to the top level granstands without that heart attack gonna die before I get to my seat feeling.

Had a great time at the Karnac/SUDS meet n greet with Old School, his son, Rex (Boneman) Hollinger and the next generation, Steven Hollinger who at 12 yrs of age is wise beyond his years and kept up and even added to the old dogs bench racing conversation. Watch out for this kid, he's gonna be a great racer with the wise Boneman guiding him. We had a few beers and discussed TBARA and other local short track points of view. A veritable KARNAC LIVE! Thanks for coming by guys! And sorry we missed you Joe Jacalone, but we'll catch up to you one day. I was anticipating your views on the Rolex24, since you have had the pleasure of actually competing in it!

And what about my friend Phil Jacques? He was having a well deserved R rated time out with his friends and the party animals in the turn 4 campground and we kept missing each other. Finally met up with him way atop the turn one grandstand for the finish of the race. Good to see you, brother. And hopefully Rocco and co. bring that car down for the extra ACT race and I'll see ya at NSS next month. Thanks everyone!

It was a good race on tv. Looked like the 5 car didn't get going on that last restart, but might not have made any difference.
Didn't look like the stands had many people in them, no " clogged injectors " . Hey, might be a possible sponsor tie in for STP Fuel Injector Cleaner.

Sounds like you guys all had a great time, sorry I missed it. I just totally chickened out when I saw the weather forcast, and decided to stay home, watch in on TV and internet, and make the wife happy, LOL. Scott, we will do some bench racing when I see you at the track, hopefully soon.

Scotty, thanks for the hospitality. The fire was warm, the beer was cold, night fell to the sounds of racecars, and best of all I enjoyed the company. We were supposed to meet some friends at New Smyrna, so we had to run off, but I will have a lighter schedule next time, and not leave until I get thrown out.

Matt, the new injectors are great! I wandered around the new Daytona Rising addition, and was very impressed. Although the heavy construction is completed and the area was in use, the finish and details are not yet in place, but it will be nothing short of spectacular when it is done.

I also hiked to the top of the new grandstands and was treated to a completely unobstructed view of the entire track. Those seats are going to entertain generations of race fans. Even though you will not find a more dedicated short tracker than me, I have to admit that I love Daytona Speedway, and consider myself very fortunate to live only 50 miles away.
