"...the problem i have with Showtime is the amount they force you to buy. I read 15 gallons."--Matt A

Would suggest they don't force you to head to the pit gate, or buy a ticket, or tires, or fuel. It is all a choice by the competitor.

BUT--point taken, Yoho makes money on the back end, and you find it excessive. Fair enough.

A question though--why is it that the cars and the fans are largely over there--and for that matter--always have been?

As has been stated in this thread, most of the central fla mods tow over there. It would seem that they think it is a cost effective proposition, including the fuel, would it not...?

taxes, (including those for insurance--or the "fine" that you pay for...nothing at all) on the other hand--are something one is forced to pay.

EMods you want a place to race?

Maybe give Bronson a try, they are trying to build up affordable classes.

ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS AND CAR OWNERS: 2015 RULES INFO

      October 30, 2015
TO: Pure Stock Drivers AND All Other Drivers
FROM: LeRoy Davidson, General Manager, Bronson Speedway
This Sunday at 3:00, the Street Stock and Open Wheel Modified drivers are supposed to be here at the Speedway to talk about – or should I say write – their rules for 2015 so they can get more cars, especially the ones that are currently parked, some of which I’m told have been parked 5 years or longer. The goal here is to make it more affordable for all of you who want to race in these classes. We need everyone who wants to race to be able to fit into a class that we are already running. Each time we, or any other track, change the existing rules or make new rules in order to please a small group of drivers in any class, car counts seem to drop because the existing classes get divided. More classes, fewer cars in each class, less excitement on the track.
I know how and why this happens, so I’ve decided that since I came here to FIX problems, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Sometimes the “fix” causes temporary problems, but at the end of the day what really matters is whether we’re moving ahead or falling behind.
My wife and I have been working for 3 weeks on the rules for every class to try and fit them to Citrus County Speedway’s rules, and we now have the 2015 Bronson/Citrus County Rules typed and ready to post. But as we finished them, Citrus County Speedway called and told me they have now decided to work with Auburndale on some classes and Showtime for other classes. Of course, I was (1) surprised, since the week before Citrus County shut down, and (2) disappointed, because while we were working on our rules, they were doing the same, but it wasn’t a team effort between our two tracks. In fact, Citrus had called me before we ever started and told me that they were on hold and I should go ahead with Bronson’s rules, and that they would work with us when they got their issues worked out. Well, we did exactly that, and now that they are all done – BOOM – I start getting calls and feedback that if we go with these rules (which are for the most part the same as they have been) that it will eliminate about 15-20 cars from being able to come back and race in ANY class that they were in when they parked their cars years ago!
Like I said before, I came here to FIX problems, NOT to let them continue, so here’s what I’m going to do:
ALL drivers in ANY class that want to run here at Bronson Speedway in 2015, be here this Sunday, November 2, at 3:00, in the big metal building. Street Stock and OWM are already supposed to be here, but the building is big enough for everyone. I’ll divide you by class and give each class a copy of the rules for you to go over. So if you have raced, are racing, or want to race at Bronson Speedway, NOW is the time to make it happen! If you don’t want to share your ideas for your class, then no one will know what you want, and yours just may be the idea that could help. You don’t have to be a leader or points champion to make a difference; sometimes the best ideas come from those who just want racing to be fair and affordable. So until we get the rules the best they can be for everyone, whether it means adding to or taking away from what is written, this is the way it will work:
Come Sunday at 3:00, if no one shows up for your class (like happened at my first meeting), then your class will be rescheduled for the next Sunday at 3:00, or whatever day and time will work for the drivers of your class. We’ll repeat this for 3 weeks, and if no one shows up for your class, or you don’t come up with a set of rules that ALL of you – not just the “big boys” or the “money people” - can agree upon by then, WE WILL NOT RUN YOUR CLASS UNTIL YOU DO! Each one of you will be required to sign the rules you have decided to use before we will make them official. It’s YOUR class, and YOUR ideas that will make YOUR class the best it can be!
If a class that we already have does not do anything, then I will do what I feel is justified. I’ll take the rules for that class and remove anything that I think is causing too much expense for the drivers and keeping that class from moving ahead, and I’ll start a NEW class with a NEW name, and build it on affordability, and the opportunity for every participant to run up front for less money and more driver ability.
Once these rules have been established and made official, whether you write them yourselves or I write them for you, they will be in effect for TWO YEARS in order to allow you the time it will take for each class to grow to its maximum potential.
I believe that Bronson Speedway has not even come close to what it is capable of doing because we all tend to just throw our hands up and say, “well, that’s what we’ve always done, so why stir the pot and lose what we’ve got”. This is why most tracks are in trouble right now. WELL GUESS WHAT? I would rather not race for a few months if need be than to let this just stay the way it is right now!! Next year will be a banner year at Bronson, whether we start racing in January or in July! But when we DO start, it will be AWESOME!!
I also want you to know that whether we have one class or five, there will be 15-30 cars in each of the regular classes here. Look at it this way….if we had, say, the Pure Stocks as the only regular weekly class at Bronson Speedway, then the Pure Stocks would quickly grow to 20 or 30 or even 40 cars! We would divide the cars into a B-Main, C-Main, and D-Main, each of which would have about 10 cars. Instead of one winner, you have 3 winners in the Pure Stocks. Out of the 3 Mains, we would take the top 4 in each race and put them in the A-Main Feature race. That would be the 12 best cars of the night racing for the Feature win. So with one class you have 4 races with 10 cars (or more), and 4 winners. That’s far better than any of the classes we have now!
Will we do this? Probably not, but it’s things like this that bring cars and spectators back to the race tracks. Citrus County and most of the Florida tracks currently have 9-12 classes with 5-8 cars or less in each one, and they wonder how they can build these classes. Well, you can’t even build one good class this way.
THIS CRAP NEEDS TO STOP, AND IT NEEDS TO STOP NOW! We need to get the drivers and spectators back, and all of us working together can do it! I may get run out of town, but NOT before I try!!! ALL THE TRACKS NEED TO TRY TO DO SOMETHING! There was an article in an Indiana Race Magazine that says someone needs to figure this out before we have no tracks left. We all know what needs to be done, but some of us just need to start it and then others will follow. I found out by experience that being the first one to do something different always makes you an idiot; but then when it starts working, everyone wants to say they did it. It’s already happened to me several times, and I hope that this will be another time so that other tracks can gain from our efforts here at Bronson. It really doesn’t matter who starts it, it’s how it ends up that counts!
There will be follow-up letters with other ideas that will be coming out over the next week or so, some of which you may not agree with at first, but watch for them, and think hard about the things you read in them. Think about these ideas from the standpoint of the people sitting in the stands watching you race, not just from your point of view. What would they like to see….would this make it more exciting for the spectators? Another thing to think about….would you rather race with 50 people watching, or with 500 people watching?

            Welcome back--a regular/moron/your pick

Mod racer--I am that fan. I would not go to a 75 lap e-mod event--and I like one of the drivers. It is the sound and the throttle response that simply do not do it for me. And I love modifieds--will be driving well over two hours to St Pete next weekend to see cars coming out of four sideways with a crisp crackle from the pipes.

A lot to say from a track that refuses to have a website to communicate and get the word out on. If it wasn't for Scott Prentice, nobody on here would even know that Bronson still exists...

LoL! I did read somewhere on the facebook page that he is trying to get a website up for the 2015 season.

I think the place is going in the right direction but I, like you, do not understand the reluctance to come on to here and get the word out.

I don't want to hijack this thread too much but maybe the EMods could make Bronson their home track in FL and have some sort of state/national championships at the end of the season- just an idea, I have no car or affiliation with the track.

A couple of years ago the Race Director from Bronson was ordered by Ann to NOT post on karnac about Bronson. A competitor was scolded also. I'm thinking the ban still exists. A website AND informational posts on here are critical to a FL tracks success. The three most successful tracks (NSS, DS AND SS) all post here. Time for Bronson to grow a thick skin and learn from the successful tracks. Who cares what anyone says about you on a message board anyway?

MR--I know where you are coming from.

I think that the street stocks at st pete put on one of the best shows on the planet, Cup & F1 included.

But when you add up a track that is inherently conducive to the cars stretching out with an obviously limited engine, combined with only a few cars...well, it just doesn't do it for me.

What I really meant was--I will drive to see a good field of mods. I am not similarly motivated to watch the e-mods.

However, if the primary difference between the engines in a e-mod and a sportsman is the carb, for heaven sakes let 'em run a 4bbl.

                          In Fact!

In fact, why not have the Sportsman, the Modifieds, and the Street Stocks run the same engine and tires? Let them all run 4 barrels, and maybe even headers on the street stocks.

Setback, weight, left side percentage, all of that could be adjusted so that the cars appear "different" on the track, but if you have the parts for one, you can build another--or three for that matter.

In fact, those three classes plus a junkyard class ought to about do it.

Lots of cars, controlled costs, good racing...what's not to like?

I won't be in the big building, but somebody let LeRoy know!

Merge the classes and come up with an acceptable weight penalty or break as an equalizer.

Would suggest they don't force you to head to the pit gate, or buy a ticket, or tires, or fuel. It is all a choice by the competitor.

taxes, (including those for insurance--or the "fine" that you pay for...nothing at all) on the other hand--are something one is forced to pay.
Actually, the mods are showing up just as strong at Desoto. Jimmy builds most of them so i guess that isn't a surprise. The fans are just as numerous at Desoto, but i've noticed in the race results that St. Pete has more of the lower class cars showing up each week. Could be payouts, could just be that there are more of those cars up there.
I might be wrong, but i believe i read that Yoho forces the racers to buy the prescribed amount of race fuel, and show him the receipt that they did so, before they are allowed on the track. So it isn't a choice made by the racer. And maybe the racers who live in St. Pete think Yoho's policy is just as greedy as i do, but feel towing to another track wouldn't be cost effective.

Absolutely correct. That suggestion is what's going to save short track racing, if it can be saved at all.
