Look, I don't have a dog in this fight but I'll say this... I just turned 37 years old and I've been involved in racing (mostly at Citrus) all my life. I have never heard of pulling heads off the winning car in a 4 car race. If the track really suspects someone of having a big engine there are other ways to check it. I understand rules are rules but jeez, really? It would probably cost more to put the engine back together than winning the race paid. Given Gary and Dora's "history" of disagreements it's easy to see what happened here.

I get asked (and told) all the time "why don't you just suck it up and go race there". Simple, I'm not putting myself in that type of situation.

If a restaurant continues to serve bad food and has crappy service the last thing I'm going to do is keep going back there. At the same time I'm going to advise anyone I call a friend not to eat there as well. If I have a great time some where, I certainly share that too and encourage all my friends to go do the same. A race track is no different than any other business we spend our money at. We don't owe it to them to keep quiet when we feel we've been mistreated or taken advantage of.

Social media can very well be the demise of a race track or any business for that matter. However it can also be a great tool for that business when customers feel they are treated fairly and come away with a positive experience.

Ok, rant over. Carry on and have a great day.

How long does it take to pull heads?

It's not so much the time pulling them off as much as the time and expense putting them back together. You gotta let the motor cool or the heads can warp. Then you have to drain the coolant, pull the carb, pull the intake, pull pushrods and rocker arms, pull the distributor, unbolt the exhaust, unbolt everything attached to the head and intake. Then pull the head. Then they might want you to pull a couple of valves. Back at home you will have to buy head gaskets, intake gaskets, maybe carb base gaskets, maybe exhaust gaskets, coolant additive, oil, oil filter, clean all gasket surfaces, clean the threads of the head bolts, silicone the ones that go into water jackets, torque heads, torque intake, reassemble everything else, do oil change, fill coolant, set valve lash, put distributor back in lined up correctly and set the timing. In other words an expensive P.I.T.A. that would likely eat a winning Street Stock purse whole.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. I love racing but don't know anything about working on cars or engines so I was just curious

Nice to see some friendly banter on an otherwise acrimonious thread.

I always try to keep it civil, EG. Although the circumstances surrounding this thread are nasty everyone is discussing things rather politely. I bow out when people start attacking each other. I find that to be cowardly from behind a keyboard. If I wouldn't say it to your face, I wouldn't say it on here and pissing contests are just a waste of my time. I also enjoy giving information to the fans from the racers perspective. After all, they keep the gates open, so we are really racing for them. That's just my view though....

If there were not CHEATERS ! There would be no reason to tech. So who's fault is it to begin with ? The years and years of cheating SKUM of the world.

Pull the carb? I would have left it on. Coolant? Tch, tch.. LOL !
It is kind of a pain in the ass pulling a head at the track though. Worth it if you've just won a race against some fast cars. Not worth it if you just won a 4 car race when the leader had you by a half a lap and broke! Especially if the guy has been kicking ass all year and NOW you're gonna pull a head!! Sounds like a B.S move by tech/management. I may done the same thing as Dora.
Then again, if the race paid $300 or so to win, I may have pulled them just to show I was legal.

I've been here, just observing. LOL ! Gathering ammunition, and watching the same old people contradict themselves. I read the Sunday comic section too.

                        I enjoy your novels too.

                        And I miss Carol.

Its the racers job to police the racer, the track has zero business pulling heads unless its a big money race. Without a protest form and the required cash, I would have told him to F'off too. Pulling the head off of any race that is 15 laps with four cars is downright ignorant.....but then again we are talking about Gary Laplant.

I think it is more of a matter of common sense and doing things consistently. To have the winning car of a 4 car feature pull a cylinder head is extreme. Especially with it only being her second feature win of the year and she only won the feature because the dominant car in the class blew up. The dominant car that is spoke of had won 8+ features before a cylinder head was ever removed. When things like this are done in this manner then it would appear as if tech or management are playing favorites or being vindictive. The lack consistency would pi$$ me off as well. I would not pull my head off either. Whether I was legal or not. Good luck to those that continue to race there.
