Good show tonite!!!

I'm not thinking of giving it up but it makes me feel I might be better off going on a date or two instead of devoting myself to the racetracks every Saturday & Monday night.

You did good girl. Hang in there and don't let people like Rex get you down. Funny thing is.......Rex is going on another radio talk show about racing next Monday night. For something he doesn't like or believe in, he sure likes going on them a lot. Of course this one powers his web site. So it may be buddy, buddy on that show.

CeCe, I know how you feel. This is a great sport, but it will take alot out of you. I've found that I have to step away from racing many times throughout the year in order to avoid mental/physical/financial burnout. I take my wife on weekend getaways (most recently to Nashville to see Kenny Chesney), go to the gym at night, instead of trashing on the racecar, pay more attention to the dog, etc.
You do a great job on the show on Monday nights!

just listened to it and i agree with Benny for the most part.

some notes:

1 - Rob claimed that he had never personally attacked Rex. this is false. Rob said several times in the previous show and even in this show that it was a "stupid" decision and also made comments to the effect that the promoter was out of his mind. while all of these things may be true, it's poor form to string the guy up before he gives his side. Rex attacked everybody on the show but most of you took a whack at him before, as Rob put it, he was even there to defend himself. you got offended when he called you out, he feels the same way about last weeks show. doesn't make either one of you right, but it is what it is.

2 - Rex claims that he explained it all to Jack previously, Rob's defense is that "the show is about ( Rob ) and Cece's views". that's fine, but it's weak sauce when Jack is sitting right across the table from you and comments in the show regularly. maybe Jack did, to the best of his ability ( even the direct from Rex explanation didn't make much sense to me ), explain to the other hosts of the show what Rex's position was. it would have been good to have made clear that representatives of the show had talked to Rex, and that "x" was the best explanation that you could get until you could get the man himself on the air. i never heard that, all i ever heard was that you couldn't get Rex to talk to you. this was not true.

3 - Rex says he doesn't think the radio shows or the internet forums are necessary to his tracks existence. this is true. racing got along just fine for decades before the internet, Auburndale can no doubt survive without ever being mentioned on IFR again.

that's not the point Rex. the point is that they are media outlets that give you free advertising and publicity for your track.

you could have one of the office girls create an anonymous account on Karnac and do nothing but post upcoming events and/or results. no banter with anybody else, no discussion about rules or officiating, nothing. and you've reached every internet aware race fan in Fla for the cost of paying her ~10 minutes per week. think about it.

4 - Rex says that he's doing this to keep the points racers from getting an advantageous pill draw for the next week's race. sigh.

this is a 'problem' created by a track rule. start the features by inverted season points with new cars and late arrivals tacked onto the back of the field. no problem. it's the way racing used to be and it's the way racing ought to be.

mid pack guys and even back markers have a decent chance to win a race, high points guys are bad ass because they're coming through the whole frickin field every night, slow cars and fast cars get used to running with one another and winning 5+ races in a season becomes a real accomplishment again.

or start features by the invert of the average of the drivers last 4 finishes, whatever.

saying you're throwing someone off the track for trying to gimp a pill draw, .

and not giving them any points even though they've been coming to your track all year, showed up, paid your entry fee, started in the back and tried to run the whole feature? this is not Sparta, this is madness.

5 - promoting / officiating ( maybe even radio hosting ) is not a job for people with big ego's or delicate sensibilities. no matter how good you are, some driver is going to get po'd. probably somebody every race night. it's not your job to make them stroke your ego. it's your job to run the track as efficiently and consistently as possible ... and to chill those crazy racers out. that's not going to happen with you running around telling people that they picked the wrong guy to argue with because you're going to throw their ass out and you'll run the joint however you feel like.

i'm not saying the customer ( racer ) is always right. i've worked retail, i know better than that. some of them you do need to get rid of. getting rid of somebody because they aren't kissing your ass is not a very good justification though.



6 - i think the wrecker driver refusing a direct order to tow the two cars off the track says everything anybody really needs to know about what went on. it was a bad decision, made for poor reasons.


i won't say that Ron and i won't be back. but i will say that we aren't going to make a +4 hour round trip just to tell Rex we think things should have been done different or we don't really like however the rule book turns out to be the next time around.

They do have a person that posts results on the message boards. But lately it has stopped on Karnac. Till last week.
