Blaney had a good run with Childress, in fact he had a race won with a few laps to go when the engine let go...like Skinner's used to...

And Dave has a TON of non wing experence...He and his dad Lou Blaney ran alot of silver crown cars and he has won many NW sprint before he hit the Outlaw trail in the Vivian #10 of Casey Luna out of Az.Originally posted by Groundpounder View PostBlaney had a good run with Childress, in fact he had a race won with a few laps to go when the engine let go...like Skinner's used to...

My comments were in response to what Frasson118 wrote. We were both backing up what you were saying...Originally posted by Southern Outlaw View PostBoth Blaney and Kinser were non wing guys BEFORE the started chasing $$$ with the WoO..as I said WON in top classes as Nascar or Indy....Kinser won 1 Race of Champion but never finished in the top 15 in cup....Blaney has had a few good runs but has been a back marker most of his cup career...notable NW guys..Gordon/Newman/Stewart/Kahne/Yeley/Leffler/Stenhouse (RS ran wings but went non wing to lean more car control 2 years before going to nationwide) and few dozen more...
Question has been asked over and over: "Why are Non Wing guys able to make over wing guys?" simple: CAR CONTROL
I can go down a long list of wing guys that have tried and failed MESSIRABLY ...one that was a drunk squirrel screwin a football was Sammy Swindell...as good as he is he could not adapt.

Of all the drivers mentioned in this thread Sammy Swindell is an enigma. He can race a non-wing midget with the best of them and given the short wheelbase this like driving a 400 hp roller skate or go kart. While I think I understand the dynamics of sprint cars perhaps Southern Outlaw could tell me what I am missing here. His son Kevin is quite similar with a better track record in midgets than other venues.

so the point was .. To me nonwing shows on pavement are a better show.
that is what I wanted to hear about.
Ware dave raced has nothing to do with it.
Many good racers came out of sprint racing.
It has only been 20 years that the pavment sprints with TBARA started racing with wings.
Im sure the club would race with or without. The question is what do the fans want to see?

Back 20-30 some years ago around here many drivers just raced their sprint car, no wing, wing, dirt, dirt no wing...it didn't matter. They just raced. A handful wanted no wings, pavement only and formed their own group. Wings were popular on a national level so they seemed to win out with our local racing and had the majority of the racing. Racers can be their own worst enemy on what they want and now things are really splintered...They (the racers) better get a consensus soon or the opportunity may say goodbye. TBARA used to sanction wing, no wing, dirt, dirt no wing...why they went away from that is beyond me.

Don I did a week of polling on another site that is here in Fl. and it was 87% wanted Non Wing and that polling had 291 people poled and you could only vote once...of course that was "DIRT" and Top Gun did end up running a few NW shows after that....Originally posted by Don Nerone View Postso the point was .. Pavement or Dirt NW is a much better show and yes Dave has nothing to do with your question.
If you like raw speed with lil passing go to see a wing show...if you are more into the side by side slide job type of show go catch a non wing show.

Because of $$$$ you had a few people with $$$ that built pavement cars only and that is what they wanted to race and they voted out the powers to be to get their way...In just like DC $$$ pick dividends...SAD but TRUEOriginally posted by Groundpounder View Post. Dave Blaney was a winged racer from day 1. First on local tracks, then the All Stars, and then the Outlaws. He did mix in some Silver Crown non-wing stuff along the way, but they only ran like 6-8 shows all season long, with a mixture of dirt & pavement shows.
Stewart, Kahne, Newman, etc all got their recognition for being excellent non-winged racers, not for anything they did with a wing on.
Kyle Larson is the exception. ..... he won in ANYTHING he jumped in, whether he'd seen that track, or driven that car before.

the TBARA sprints never raced on dirt with wings for many years. they ran sunshine Golden Gate hieleah and so on.
Eastbay didn't run sprints there weekly just the winter shows with dirt wing sprints. there were 2 or 3 local guys that would run in those shows.
all the sprint races were on pavement non wing.
East bay changed hands and the promoter sold a deal to TBARA The drivers that didn't want to run dirt started there own deal and ran the local pavement tracks.
When the dirt deal went bad the TBARA went back to a pavement club but left the wings on.
That is how you end up with 2deals
And im to blame for some of that. I had a track and wanted sprint races and TBARA only ran dirt.
After they came back to pavment I ran both at different times and both were good to me.
I would like to see them all at the same race whatever it takes.
The fans can will come if they get there stuff together.
That is how it happened.

This is your version...the facts and history are a bit different. Your portion of shaping sprint car history? Well, I will respect my elders...Originally posted by Don Nerone View Postthe TBARA sprints never raced on dirt with wings for many years. they ran sunshine Golden Gate hieleah and so on.
