We use the 800 tire through many divisions up here, one in particular is the Late Models @ Stafford Speedway which run about a 465hp built spec motor that they share with the SK Modified division. These cars are 3000lbs with 55% left weight. We also run this tire on the Limited Late Models which are a 602 Crate with 4bbl carb (Sounds an awful lot like your sportsman cars) except our LLM is 3100lbs and 53% left weight... In comparison, the FL sportsman is 3000lbs and 56% left weight...

These tires have worked absolutely fantastic over the years for us here not only at Stafford but also at Monadnock. Now, no... It doesn't hit 90º on a regular basis up here, but there are generally 3-4 races each year where we are as hot if not hotter than you guys in FL in mid July to early August... Even on a hot track, there have been no issues whatsoever with this tire. There were guys running this tire 4 races and still running up front and winning this season.

Is the 800 the magical solution to racing in FL? No, probably not. But at least people are trying to find a way to help make the weekly racing cheaper for the little guys.

This is the big problem with racing across the country. Everyone hides behind a keyboard and says they know how to fix it but they don't make any effort to do so. What happens to you guys in FL doesn't matter to me one bit, but I love FL and love racing and suggested this tire to Scott to help, went out of my way to find a good solid low lap set of used tires for the test, spent my time and money to ship them down cause I want to see you guys grow as a community and get the parked cars out of their shops.

Short Track racing is in trouble right now. Escalating costs are killing the little guys and young fans who are the future of this sport and all the track owners and promoters seem to be in denial and not understand how expensive it really has gotten. I am seeing Bomber division cars for sale right now for $7500... That's LUDACRIS! The sad part is people pay that, and after time it becomes seen as acceptable. A Bomber car should cost no more than $3500-4000 NEW... Instead of everyone sitting here arguing all the damn time pointing fingers, take a minute and try to help find solutions to problems.

If there's a tire that works better, for everyone, and costs less, then this long drawn out exercise will pay off. I really don't see how the outcome of this "test" is going to affect more than just a handful of racers.
Has the sport gotten too expensive, or are the pay-outs almost the same as they were 20 years ago?
Just curious, if the 800 tire wins this little contest, what difference does it make overall? The Hoosier people don't have to bring a new tire into Florida if they don't want to. What's going to force them to? And if they refuse to bring in the 800, what alternative do the racers have? Bitching and moaning?

Ok my turn ..Scotty the tire that you teased doesent have enough side wall construction to run a NSS for the long term and the tire experts know that.
The factory have been sending these sidewall type casing with all kinds of componds to test at NSS for years.
They have now built something that might hold up there but its on a new caseing.
Did anyone wonder why NSS is the place that they alwase go to test in the US.
If you can get a tire to go and last there it will work anyware.

The new casing on the 450 and 650 is about 3 years old.
I was told the 800 was the old casing from 5 years ago.
Witch one did they run up north for years?
Now don't blast me but check it out. Im just trying to help..
Hoosher just might have a new sidewall tire that is ready for testing this winter and it would be tough on the racer to have to many tire changes in the same season.

The sidewall is firm and tough. It's safe in that regard. All of these tires have sidewalls that are suitable for New Smyrna Speedway. They are exactly of the same construction. Whatever tire New Smyrna chooses, there will be no need to change to another tire.

I don't have a dog in this race just hoping everyone keeps there eyes open to the truth.

As far as the tire people they make more money when there is a tire change.
Trust this there is someone wanting a change every year.
When I was with Goodyear there were many post buy the same people on this tread that wanted Hoosher because they were so much better up north.
They were on here wanting to run Comanche tires. That did get a tire test at NSS.
If this 800 is a new built tire with a new sidewall it might be what you are looking for. I hope so.
Rember you set the stage for the next tire change.
Go on the web and get 100 post about how we need a tire change.
right or wrong way the more post you get the more the tracks will pay mind to the idea.

I appreciate your concern Don. I went back and saw that Phil said it had been run "over the years". I stand corrected and changed my post. Phil is misinformed. Stafford Speedway in Connecticut changed to the 800 in April of 2011. Since then other New England tracks have followed suit and switched to it. It is also run at tracks throughout the midwest. Some big, some small on classes all the way up to Late Models. Like I said, the sidewall on the Commanche is paper thin and not fit for NSS. I have raced quite a bit on that tire and would never have suggested it. It is nothing like the 800. The point of this thread was to have somebody consider the 800. I wasn't proposing the 800 so that we can "do it like they do up north". Hell, until Phil told me, I had no idea that they were now using it at Stafford (my old home track). When I left we were on American Racers there. I suggested it based upon research of the tire being sucessfully used in the Midwest. The fact the Stafford used it only gave me more sources to talk to firsthand and gave me the ability to get a set (which I paid $180 of my own money to have shipped). Don, please go back and read this thread from the beginning. No offense, but I'm tired of repeating things to you. All of the information is there.

As for burning the bridge, well I don't sell tires. The tracks and Donny do. I'm sorry if the truth hurts, but I call a spade a spade. Jeff from Hoosier Tire South has been dishonorable. First he said he'd send tires. He didn't. Then he said he didn't have the right sizes. Then he said he only had 1. Then he said he was coming to FL to test the 800 at four tracks in two days. Me and Patrick made plans to take off work and tow all over the state and do it. On the eve of the 2 day test he cancelled and said the 800 was not going to be tested in FL because it already had been tested by Chad Pierce driving and Butch Pierce overseeing the testing. This was a flat out lie. Chad confirmed that he had never tested tires for Hoosier. Butch admitted he had been involved with some testing at NSS, but never the 800. In the middle of all this nonsense Jeff said that Hoosier was testing a "new tire" at Kalamazoo that had more grip than the 800 but lasted as long. I could not find any evidence that this tire exists, nor that Kalamazoo has conducted any tire testing this year. Kalamazoo did have archived in their Facebook page, to great extent, information about their last Hoosier test in 2013 ( in which they rejected a newer tire in favor of remaining on the 800). Kalamazoo is a rough surfaced, mid-banked half mile. The only way any bridge is burned is if Jeff reads KARNAC. And that bridge leads solely to me. I don't sell tires. I really don't think the bridge to FL is burned when Hoosier Tire South just sent down 3 sets of 800s and three sets of 700s and ZERO sets of the "mystery tire" to test for free. I don't talk to Jeff so I don't know the circumstances around why the "mystery tire" wasn't sent. Nobody at NSS said why it wasn't there. If anybody has any concrete evidence as to the actual existence of this tire please let me know. My hunch is that Jeff is full of shit, again. As to the notion that Jeff and Hoosier Tire South won't provide the 800 if the tracks demand it is preposterous. The customer dictates what the supplier gives them in a free market economy. To refuse due to personal issues is throwing away profit. Not sure the folks at Hoosier Tire South would be too happy if FL tracks obtained their tires from another distributor just as far away from FL as NC is, or worse yet, switch to American Racers. The customer is always right...

MATT THE TRACK SETS THE TIRE TO BE USED.
The tire people sell what the track wants and if NSS want 800 they will get them.
I think its clear that Hoosher doesent think the 800 tire is going to work there.
If forced to sell it by the track then that is what will happen.
Why would a track change to a tire that the eng and the tire people don't think is the right tire?

Boy, I'm not sure what the hold up is with this deal but I'm starting to feel disappointed. After Patrick and Shannon tested the 800 at NSS I heard Brandon Morris did a similar one at Auburndale with Ricky Brooks supervising. Rumor was that Brooks and Morris gave the 800 the thumbs up. Here we are now mid-December and still no word on what tire will be used in 2015. Maintaining the status quo would be a real bummer. If that's the case then, once again i'll only be able to afford 6-8 races next year. I was hoping to at least double or even triple that number with a longer lasting tire. Oh well, can't say we didn't try...

I sure wish these tracks would step up, it seems like a no brainer
To go to a tire like this that will last and be affordable. Showtime race's there street stocks on a hard Hoosier tire and there affordable and they have some of the best racing and car count also new tires don't matter till 4 weeks or so.

You make an excellent point, Racer1. One night this past summer I was spectating at Showtime and Yoho had one of his Street Stock competitor's cars on display. I noticed the tires on the car were exclusive to Showtime (Hoosier 790's, I think?). They looked identical to the ultra long-lasting Hoosier Commanches. Anyway, this is one of those deals where Yoho chooses to "do his own thing" and boy does this work out for him. Showtime's Street Stock tire rule is an excellent example of how a long lasting tire can help boost your weekly car counts. Showtime's weekly car counts for Street Stocks blows every other track's car count, for these types of cars, out of the water. While the 790 (I think) is a great Street Stock tire for short and intermediate sized tracks, its thin sidewall construction would not be suitable for New Smyrna or Sportsman cars. But the tests at NSS PROVED that the 800 was up to the task of holding up well at the big high-banked half-mile. One amazing piece of information I will let out of the bag is that the year-old 100 lap 800's WERE 2 TENTHS QUICKER THAN THE STICKER 800's! This was true for both the Sportsman AND Super Stock they were tested on. Shannon Kelly (reigning and multi-time NSS Super Stock Champion) stated to me that he felt that he probably could get 10 races out of the 800!
