Not sure how you figure a Crate engine is not cheaper...

I can get a 602 to my door for just under $4000 and it's good to run for 3 years before a refresh.

My built engines cost me 7-10k and need to be refreshed yearly.

When I move south, my current Street Stock will have a 9" added to it and front jacking bolts and turn into a 88 monte bodied sportsman g car, and I will have a 602 with 4bbl in my tube car.

With all due respect, eg, that's just not true. A Sportsman GM 602 is around $3200 delivered (I'm on my fourth season without a rebuild). A comparable open motor would be around $7000 to build and need a $2500-3000 rebuild every 1-2 years. Crates can't turn big RPM so they last waaay longer. Sorry to disagree, you usually have a similar viewpoint to me!

        Mea culpa I stand corrected.

On a short track, the perfect class IS sprint car...fast, brutal and a class that separates the men from the boys.
Bet you haven't heard that phrase for awhile!

While being understanding of the finances...

Why does a crate motor sound "flat", while hobby stock motors sound both crisper and faster. Are they mo' money?

And, I guess it is a big ol' can o' worms, but can a crate motor be more heavily cammed?

perfect class for me would be one where there were no motor rules, no tire rules , and few body and chassis rules. Fuel injection, forced induction, tract control and driver adjustable suspension is allowed. A class where people could spend 200,000 $ on their racecar and no one would complain
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

People who couldn't afford to race it would complain that it's too expensive

What are the cars that are racing the most throughout North America? Which car have the healthiest fields week in week out? What car have the most licence holders? Those are the closest to perfect cars.

The wheel have ben invented. No need to loose time trying to make another one.

As an exemple, take the real IMCA Mods, there is a gazillion of them racing almost every night of the week, many hundreds showing at mega shows of their own. Licence holders by the thousands. Hard to beat. North East Dirt Mods, good class too. Very close to IMCA as far as popularity.

And both can be race on dirt and pavement. So, there are 2 good starting points.

I have to agree with Scott on the tire deal. Just need to buy tires way to often to be up front. Hard tires, cheap shocks, (125.00) and a series that runs 2x's at all the tracks in FL. All the other rules are good.

Need a tire inventory system like we implemented here up north. 6 new tires at the beginning of the year and 2 tire credits given per race completed (2 max per week). Maximum of 12 tires allowed in your inventory overall at any time. In order to add 2 new tires to your inventory when you are at your max, you must remove 2 tires. All tires tracked by barcode on the tire. Sounds complicated but it's actually really simple system and works really well! Could even cut down the max inventory size to 8 active tires total to really help save everyone money.

FUPS Sportsman deal was good and easy. 4-2-2. Four the first week, then 2, and then another 2. It was done by the barcodes also. At the very least we have to get rid of the 450 left sides. Mine wear out as fast as the rights! Way too soft!

The "Perfect Race Car" is kinda like the "Perfect Woman". It all depends on what's attractive to you, what you can afford and how much maintenance you're willing to put up with!

(alas, everyone still complains in F1--but it does help me take a nap...)
