        racing two tracks

i can remember me and my brother don abney -ron abney - jr purcell many years ago we were only racing at golden gate because we were told that we were not welcome at auburndale if we lived in hillsbourgh county to stay in hillsbourgh county

they even changed the rules so we could not race our car there back when they had super sixes now what did not make sence was they could come to golden gate we did not care and race . we ran quick changes in our cars and few other things finally they let us come

w e had change rear end to chev ten bolt or nine inch ford change headers and intake carb and from alchol to gas .

and i remember we won a lot races there and they had this ole house in pits were they tore you down at and they kept tearing us down i know 12 weeks in row maybee more then finally one night we had a real party inside that house and we could not come back for long time

so we started racing somewere else for a while they allways had this cute way of running you off

            Ahh AB

I can remember growing up-- up North when guys like Trickle and that were still running short tracks alot.. They would come and you are right, they were usually running late and the announcers would truly make them and the fans feel special about being at the track... Even regular racers were treated to things like that...

Things like that always produced a humm, an excitement especially if it was a big name driver... Alot of times those big guys would run, but they would talk to all the drivers no matter what division, and even deal with the fans...

How did that song go... "Memories, of a world gone by......" ROFLMAO

One jerk voted that tracks should discourage racers from racing at other tracks.

Was probably Boneman or Todd McCreary.

I was guessing that it was Backdoorbob or brokebackmike.

I've been quiet on this but figured I'd add my vote. I can remember going to many races and the announcers would announce that so and so was on their way from another track and should be here soon. I can remember sitting at Fonda speedway, watching the bridge, waiting for some top names to arrive. It use to happen quite often, particularly if there were rainouts but also on good days too.

Drivers these days, they're too high strung, they just don't have the durability or endurance of the Drivers they used to race 30 years ago. The pressure gets to 'em and they just can't handle it, they wreck cars, ignore flagging signals, try to tear down the wall, generally just cause a lot of hassles for the wrecker crews.

i think we ought to lobby for a statewide law that no Driver is allowed to run more than two races per week and those no more than 50 laps each. if a promoter wants to run 100 laps you have to stop at the halfway point and come back two days later to run the back 50.

maybe if we started cross-breeding them with hardier stock like long haul truckers or citrus pickers they'd be able to handle a 51+ lap a day schedule but the thoroughbreds we have right now are just too delicate to be up to the task.

do your part to fight Driver cruelty! join the ASPCD or PETD!

Ladies, retired Drivers also make great pets. they're very affectionate and caring. you should adopt one ... pet him lots and lots. he'll love it, i promise.
