  • good car counts in a bad economy

BRP had 140+ cars last weekend, Datyona has aprox 500 karts this weekend. Sebring has over 340 cars pre registered for next weekends Majors race(75 spec miatas 69 spec racer fords), and Palm Beach Intl. Raceway already has 178 cars pre registered for upcoming races.
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

Any Promoter still hanging onto the 'bad economy' theory, is just an outright bad Promoter. Racecars ARE turning out.... if they're not coming to your track, look in the mirror instead of watching the doom & gloom network on TV.

I also keep an eye on car counts all over New England/the Northeast. The mid-week specials are bringing excellent fields, and the weekly programs are pretty solid in most places.

The Mods ran a show in late November, where I saw a bunch of posts of guys loading their trailers and leaving home in the SNOW... and still brought over 70 cars.

It's NOT the economy.... It's the difference of whether they support YOUR show, or not.

But....the economy is bad! Tracks are in the shape they are in because of poor management. Good post Frasson

Kendo hit the nail on the head... Brett Deyo is THE MAN when it comes to promotion.

I've messages him a few times about organizing a Speedweeks Florida mini-Tour. This is THE guy who could get it done.

He'd pull 60 cars from up north, when nobody else would be able to bring 20. He works 'around' the DIRT Series instead of going head-to-head against them.

If he worked with Bubba, he'd fill their pit area without any help at all from DIRTcar at all..... and get half of their regulars while he was at it.

All the talk about big money needed to draw cars...you know guys need xx dollars to start...the SCCA crowd at Sebring will race their cars for trophies and bragging rights...true sportsman. Some of those cars are worth six figures also! A $600.00 entry fee to boot!

Well, you learn something new every day. This evening I was catching up with an old friend who has a teenaged son that is a motocross rider. The kid is very successful; he rides professionally in Europe and runs national events across America. Anyway, his dad (a guy I believe) said there was a motocross event in Oklahoma that drew 3,000 riders, and their sea of 2,500 motor homes.

BRP probably could have had even more cars. I think because of how late in the season alot of guys are already torn down for the winter. to hear the car counts in those other series is amazing tho.

They are up to 283 entries at the Chili Bowl, 3 shy of the record or 286(2008).

Like it's been written over and over again, bad economy is an excuse, not a reason.

Not to mention all the seats are sold too. If you don't get tickets to The Chili Bowl early, you don't get em at all.

All those people didn't get the memo about the bad economy.

World final at Charlotte did not do too bad either.

It's a matter of building these events in a ''not to miss'' kinda events.

Remember in ''05 when Hialeah closed, 7000+ fans and cars by the hundreds. Where were they the week or the month B4???? Not at the track for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                          Has to have something attracting.

Here we go guys. Ken can tell us if the Hobby/Thunder stocks ( what's the difference in the two? ) battle filled the grandstands on it's own. Because he's right when he says no one comes to see them.
