    Sunday...

Bob update: Has a little cold today so kinda tired but nothing important is wrong so we are just laying low. Dialysis again tomorrow. C'mon kidneys kick back in! Thanks to Carolyn Ford and Robert Ford for stopping by and bringing so many amazing cards from my students, a great magazine for my brain, and home made angel cookies!

Today is a WOW factor day!

      Sylvia Diehl
Okay thought it was going to be a laid back day but Bobby Diehl surprised me. We hadn't had Physical Therapy for many days and I thought with him being kinda sick it would not be good. Not true! He stood up from bed to walker four times, did all kinds of exercises, and walked 2 steps forward and 4 steps sideways! Unexpected celebrations are wonderful!

WTG Bobby Diehl!!! You are amazing. God is good.

          Monday... ;-) gettin better!

Update on Bob: Still has a lot of congestion BUT ...he did a lap around the bed on a walker, transferred from bed to chair 2x, and did many exercises. Dialysis was also cancelled today because his numbers looked better! Great day!

            Note from Sylvia...

I hope you don't mind me using Facebook for general Bob updates. It is easier to share once. Bobby Diehl is still critical but stable. He has a little fever which is not unusual after both surgeries. Our next worry and hopefully last worry is his left kidney but we are watching it. It was not totally cut off from blood flow so we are hoping it kicks back in. Once again, I am completely overwhelmed by such amazing friends, colleagues, and family. I know that such a group of incredible people will help Bobby find his way back to us.

                Weds. news from Sylvia... ;-)

Early but exciting Bobby update: his kidney numbers went way down this morning! I mean better than ever. They are starting to filter again. Doctor said no more dialysis! He had the Bobby Diehl grin when I came in this morning. He also walked again with PT this morning.

Bobby Diehl has won the battle!

Bob update: This is another celebration day! Kidneys doing really well and he was accepted to TGH rehab starting next week! I am excited to say I really will be able to quit boring everyone soon because Bob is looking like he is out of danger and on his way! Our surgeon today was talking about how dangerous Bob's condition was and how he lost someone today with an aortic dissection. He was also celebrating how well Bob was doing. He put anticipated "full recovery" on his paperwork for the sick leave bank. I may have those words framed. Bobby Diehl will have to change some of his physical ways but with a few months time will be back in our lives and at work!

Bobby Diehl on his way to recovery!

We are off to TGH rehab this afternoon! It's a celebration day! We have lots of hard work ahead but Bob has never shied away from work. Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts. They have given Bobby inspiration to get well.

                      from Sylvia on Friday 12/13/13

GUESS WHAT? WE ARE OFF TO REHAB! We got a room today so no worries about insurance issues. We are all packed up and waiting to go. It will probably be later this afternoon. Bob walked halfway down the hall by himself with no support other than the walker in PT. He got a smaller size opening for his trach which is the first step in weaning. Even with that had 100% oxygen after his stroll! Another major celebration day! We are one step closer to home and hearth! Love to you all!

                        Saturday night.

                        Sylvia Diehl
First day of rehab complete! Bob was assessed by Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. He worked hard all morning and was amazing. We were glad to see Sherry Bennett Henderson and had a lovely visit. She gave us among other things a very apt Superman card! Bob kinda paid for all the therapy work in the afternoon. He was exhausted and struggled a little. I know he will sleep well tonight. Thankful to be in such a great rehab! Cindy Sorsabal Phillips and Stan took me to dinner tonight while Cara bonded with her Dad. Now on to grading!

                          My big surprise this morning!!!

Bobby Diehl called! What a great surprise. One thing he said that inspired me was "you never realize how things really are until you look from the other side. Green is greener and blue is bluer and you do whatever you have to do to come back. He has overcome what most humans dont and he MIGHT be going home tomorrow. He is overwhelmed with the many many cards, calls, prayers, and messages from so many people.
He still has alot to do but he gets stronger every day. He was in the hospital for 5 weeks. Hope he doesnt have a massive stroke when he gets that bill!!! lol
Love you Bobby and praying for a total recovery! Thank you for the call. It meant everything. YAHOOOOO!
                          Bobby style!

                            GR8 news

                            Bobby,
GR8 news on you heading home for therapy, you've come a long way in a relatively short time which is great! There is no doubt you'll be looking at life in a whole new perspective now, you'll see things and appreciate them so much more whereas before nothing really stood out special as I can speak from my experience which was almost identical to yours. All the prayers you received and still are receiving really do work, and you'll look at God in a whole new light now as well. No matter how well you may have thought you knew God you will now realize you know and understand him so much better, and your belief in him will be so much stronger.Take care my friend and get well quick!
                            God Bless,
                            Bill

                              Latest..Thurs. evening.

Bob update! Bob is coming home for Christmas! He is getting his feeding tube removed tomorrow and hopefully his trach also. We will be almost tube free! Another really good day!
Bill...you could not be further from the truth. With God, all things are possible. Bobby has literally seen the light.

                                ?Misunderstanding?

                                Carol,
I so appreciate your updates about Bobby. Having read your post and rereading my own, I do not understand your response “You could not be further from the truth.” I know that God can do all things and He hears the prayers of His people. Having been through the experience that Bob and I have been through, and having “seen the light,” one develops a deeper appreciation of God and what He has done in your life. Our perspective on God and life is more meaningful now, as compared with before. In no way was I speaking untruth, but as a Christ-follower, if I was, I stand corrected.
