I heard the new GM is the same guy that is running the Orlando drag track, and Lakeland if that helps any. I'm so disgusted with OSW that i didn't even pay attention to the guys name

Open practice is something to do jumping jacks about?????

Just another way for them to collect money, for racers to SPEND money, and ZERO reason for a fan to show up.

      Whoop-de-doooooooo ......!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about scheduling a RACE. Now there's a novel idea.

here frasson your own words. ..The Toyota company taught me in a seminar, to "identify, and fire bad customers"Dude.... they are soooooo much better off without you. When someone causes nothing but aggravation and grief, they need to be pointed towards your worst competitor.

Open practice is also a way to put feelers out to see what kind of interest there is.

Will there be tires and fuel there for practice?

I emailed the track to inquire about the schedule and NASCAR affiliation; I received a response from Donnie; he said OSW is NOT going to be a NASCAR track in '14 and the schedule will get posted when he's ready to post it.

it's a shame, I love the track but its time to move to bigger and better things. OSW is dead, they might as well close the gates for good, or lease it out to someone who cares. even if they decide to run a weekly show why bother? its clear its still the same ol shit, the 1st drift event was advertised the same day it was scheduled for. this last sat. they had the driving school thing that they posted on Facebook on Friday that was scheduled for sat. it doesn't really matter what they pull in for a show, they will not give effort. the only things that matter are crasharama, and sprints. because they have their own following.

as far as the practice being a test to see car count...... it probably is. but why go practice at a track that may or may not let you run, and is clearly not willing to put in effort?

                        Good attitude.

I'm done with the place. Sad. I was there for the very first race. Raced my very first circle track there too.

sbracer58, according to Donnie Vivier he wrote something different to you than what you have reported. As you sure it didn't say "as soon as I feel like it is ready to be released"?

At least you took the trouble to write to the guy directly, and I urge you to keep the line of communication open. The flow of information from OSW to the circle track crowd is frustrating for us, but my business with them is on behalf of TBARA, so I have to be careful not to appear to be a OSW spokesman.

Clearly, the schedule is not settled yet. I know first-hand they are working on it. Although the arrangement of classes and the schedule of race nights is going to be different than the past, there is no doubt that they are going to give circle track racing another try. If the racers and fans don't support it, then it will go away. The fact is, they can book other types of motorsports there and not lose money. If the circle track shows don't support themselves, then we are out, and they continue with something else.

Its a clear and simple choice.

I know that the work in my little shop will be to have my stuff in its best condition for the 3 races at Speedworld, and my little team is going to bring as many fans and friends as I can possibly arrange.

Rex we would love to race out there but it does not seam like they want to do that or let anyone know what they have in mind so we will not go out just like I am sure a lot of racers will do also

It could be that Ozzy and his management team have realized that asphalt short track racing is dying in this state, at least in the Orlando area, and have begun to branch out. We've talked about bringing in new blood to the tracks, but no tracks ever step up to do anything about it. Ozzy is doing something about it, he's attempting to bring in a younger crowd. And the younger crowd isn't interested in racing antique cars with 50 year old engines.
If stock car racers aren't going to race there, he's got some people who will. Don has already shown he can draw a crowd of drifting competitors from the Orlando area.
And one day maybe, just maybe, the young guys will get curious about how fast their turbo 4 cyl. cars could go around that oval without going sideways. We can only hope for the sake of a track that's got a lot of history..

its impossible to say with any accuracy that asphalt short track racing is dying in the area when Ozzy has made no effort to get it going. The cars are around, a lot are sitting in garages/barns collecting dust, a lot are traveling to other tracks that are at least trying to do a little something. If he put even half the effort in the oval as he does the drags it wouldn't be this bad. if you think that OSW oval short track racing is dying, you should go back on previous posts just here on karnac alone and look at some of the viewing numbers. people watch OSW closely, but they need a reason to come spend hard earned money. the main resource that everyone looks to get info (the website) has not been welcoming by any means for the past year. you cant expect a turn out when no one knows from week to week what's happening. I would put money on this drifting program falling short as well, unless of course this is another beloved passion of Ozzy's. Lets face it...... he never gave it a honest chance and the sport dying at OSW is based solely on the disaster of 2013 that was self inflicted.
