    Tires

During a long season my Sportsman/LLM will go througfh 6 rights and 4 left side tires and still have enough to start the next season. Thats based on a practice, heat, and 20 lap feature each night. Bronson runs a 30 lap feature so I am seeing a little faster wear down. But at $106.00 a tire, its more affordable than the higher priced Mod tires being bought every other week.

I have been running up in Ohio with my modified for about a year and a half now and we are on the treaded tires. Here is a link to the tire compounds that we run http://www.shadybowl.com/rules/tire/ This past friday night i won my heat from the back and finished 7th in the feature with tires that had 7 races on them. The only reason i finished 7th in the feature was a setup mistake on my part, hoping the track would tighten up. As a side note on the tires, i dont do this personally but some people in my class do is after a night of racing, take a grinder to the tires and take a layer off of them. Suprisingly, the tires actually get a little quicker over time. As for contact area, when you see the "treads" on the tires you will actually laugh a little. There are basically a 1/4 inch groove around the tire in 4 places, so you will not be losing any contact area. It is great to see a track owner helping out the driver where they can, and hopefully the drivers and cars will come out and put on a good show.

I'm going to go with it's going to work and I was NSS 2weeks ago but had problems with the car so loaded it up. I'm going to race this weekend and hopefully solve the problem. As I have stated in another thread that I called about 5 tracks contacted 3 different series that run treaded tires on modifieds on asphalt to get the info before I even started pushing it. You will still have to work on you car and make it handle and drive it but the guy that has the biggest motor doesn't aways win. It might also give a guy a chance to run up front that for no other reason but motor can't now. I sure I will get complaints from some racers about the tires and how stupid they are but for the most part I think it will bring more cars out.

            openwheel modifieds

you know open wheel modifieds is a great class plenty cars good drivers good looking cars really put on a good show but to have two three different classes of them no no no one class now 8'' tires ain't way to go

if you can't drive and open wheel get in another class . but if you want to put on show and draw lot people put 10 inch tires on them 2500 lbs after race with driver 358 cubic inch no motor rule except cubes .

and have a buy motor 15000 dollars pull motor out of car only top three cars if they buy your motor then if you want you can give them 10000 and take there motor .. now i know some one is going to find something wrong with this but sure would like to see my car on 10 inch tires

I think you are missing the point. We are trying to make the class AFFORDABLE.

I would 2 like to see my mod on 10 inch tire but the fact is that I and a lot of other drivers just can't afford it. There's more to just bolting on 10 inch tires. You need better spindles, hubs and brakes that in it's self would be another 1000 to 1500 before you baught and new wheels redid your body because the 10 inch tires won't work. All I'm trying to do is even up the field and make it a cheaper to go racing.

Finally a decision is being made that will hopefully over the next month or so bring out more of the drivers... With the economic times as they are, most of the people just can't swing that big buck thing... Alot of people just don't get it if you are running slicks that new tires are required all the time... I ran up north on both slicks and Treaded and let me tell you, the difference in price was an awesome change.. At that time I could afford a new set every night if I had too, but damn it man why waste money... I truly hope that this will allow some of the people to come out of the closet per se, and come back racing....

                    Have a good night all...

The 8 inch tire is a great idea. It was run at Mansfield to. USA Mod series runs it. To the guy who runs Shady bowl, you know how much cheaper this is. Guy named Ricky Siblia ran these tires for almost 2 years.lol What I have seen in this is the big motors will not get the traction coming off and your less hp guys will keep up. The 10 inch grooved is the same way. LM should be on it. Like I said before and chasisdude can proove it. 16 races, 27 car avg per race. Avg tires bought PER TEAM FOR THE YEAR WAS 7 tires. At a cost of $115 a tire. $770 for the year for tires per team. THINK ABOUT IT!!!

It will separate the throttle stompers from the drivers and even up the cars as the cubic dollars will not be able to hook up on the harder tires.

8 '' tires some one said throttle stompers

also john tenny just for you i will try to speak real slow in english so you can understand ---- i bet there are a lot more people that would rather see fast cars racing than 8 or 9 going around in a circle playing follow the leader .

also some people can make cars go fast on knowledge and working on them also i agree it takes money to race . but the worse thing i see is some one trying to race that has no money and can;t drive either . and there are guys that have money and still can't drive

what happened to local racers at local asphalt tracks with late models . 8-9 cars good night - thats whats going happen to modifieds guy draws pole pill follow leader - or guy sets fast time starts on pole follow leader like watchin paint dry

i want to see cars hung out on out side passing . i bet you could put six cyclinder in modified with 8 inch tires and go just as fast tighten up seat belts bolt on some ten inch mash gas set car up stay off brakes get on out side and race or race street stock or 4 cyl

                            Hey Ronab

It isn't really about being able to drive or big engines, one of the main reasons that this is being tried is so that more people can come out and race... I know quite a few people that are good drivers and have really nice cars, BUT can't afford the new set of tires every other week to be competitive... Again in these financial times, promoters and drivers need to do something to get the people out on the track and keep people out on the track... With better fields, come more fans.. With more fans, comes more money for the track and hopefully for the drivers...

                            Have a great day all....
