Yea you think Mods are dangerously fast now. Wait and see what you have in store for you now. They are really going to be dangerous now. Way to go FASCAR! Have the MEDIC heliclopters ready!

That sounds like progress, I hope it works out. I always thought that was the coolest class, but would never try it because of the money required. The modified races have been pretty poor for the most part lately, so hopefully this will shake things up.

            Treaded tires

Brokeback mike or what ever your name is, you are totally wrong. Just another guy that thinks he knows everything. Put these guys on 8 inch treaded tires that will last 6, 7, 8 races and watch the car counts take off. I know all the crackers don't want to hear this, but we have been telling you how to fix this car count problem here in Florida. Thank you OSW and NSS, now lets hope everyone else can see the light.......

With all do respect, you sir are an idiot. Now you cant be mad at me because i said with all due respect. The only thing the treaded tires will do is slow you down a little and the tires will last longer since they are harder. Not sure what compound they are going to use, but dont you think they tested these tires before making the change. It seems like when a change is made people either understand why the change is made, or they are completly clueless and agianst it for some unknown reason.
So brokebackmike, what is going to be in store for them now? please answer me this.

I'm the person that push the treaded tire the hardest I'm glad they switched. I don't know who brokenbackmike45 is but you have no idea what you are talking about. It will be nice to go racing and not have to worry if I can afford a new set of tires to run up front every week because some can and no disrespect to the guys that can. In today's world most people can't afford a new tire much less 4 every week and this is the easiest thing to do without costing the racer anymore money.

Didn't the OWM class originally start on the treaded 8" tires back in the mid to late '80s, based (loosely) off of IMCA Modified rules (the "Florida Modifieds")? I thought the original point of the class was to provide an (cheaper) alternative to the (Super) Late Models using somewhat stock frames and all that stuff. I don't know, myabe I'm just not thinking about the right class...

So Moderacer22. Are the cars going to be safer in the turns? Those cars have alot of Horsepower. I always thought the contact patch would be altered by using a treaded tire? When I see you race, your fast! But come to think about it I have not seen you support the track lately. Im just curious, not bashing.

Are there going to be any new mods besides the 5-6 that run weekly? If so who is going to be coming out?

The 'contact patch' will be determined by setup of the car, including camber adjustment. If its the same as the sportsman treaded tire, it has good grip and will last more races than the 8" slick they are using now. After a few laps the mod driver will get the hang of this tire and probably like it a lot better. JMO... We are having problems getting these tires at the track though.

I can see it being more dangerous if drivers go balls to the walls first time out w/o much practice after being on the slick tires for so long. I can also see it helping the cars who are down on horsepower. Its one of those things that will be interesting to see. Thumbs up to fascar for trying something different.

Out of curiosity what tires are the mods using at other tracks around the state?

To answer your question Jimmy yes they started on treaded tires. Sara ran them in 2002 or 2003 can't remember for sure what year save guys a lot of money but once again the few guys with money got rick to put us back on slicks. To answer your question Brokenback the reason I don't race that much is because lack of money and the fact I can't bolt on new tires ever other week and once again no disrespect to the guys that can. I push for the tires for the simple reason to save racers money while hopefully increasing the competition. I will suffer the same as the other guys with the open motors but if it will drawl out more cars to race then thats great. I don't think it will double the car count the first 2 or 3 weeks but I honestly beleive they will start coming out. I also don't beleive that someone will bolt on tires and not practice with them. I have yet to run on the ones that FASCAR picked but ran on the sara treaded tires and the old treaded we ran along time ago.

Ronnie Bacelo's in his short stint as a track promoter up here in SC, put super late models on that tire. Didnt really change anything about the outcome of races. Fast cars were still fast, slow cars were still slow, and the same old caution causers still spun out. Bout the only thing was people did not have to buy tires all the time.

Sounds good if it will work like you say it will Skip. I like the modifieds. I don't want to see them go. Maybe they others will have a chance against Bruns and Garver now. So when do you plan on coming back out Skip?
