Nascar should do this at Daytona during speed week & during the week leading up to the Coke 400 weekend...Fans love dirt racing and this is a no brainer....I always suggested making that go kart track bigger and add some grandstands.Originally posted by andre View PostAnother proof that mid week shows cannot work....................

If watching it on speed got you amped up... It didn't disappoint in person. There was action all over the track. Yes the leaders at times got single file but from 8th on back you saw slide jobs... Scraping the wall sparks flying etc.... 22,000 people at a local track on a Wednesday. The 50/50 was $17,000

I rest my case. This format coupled with features short enough to eliminate green flag pit stops would place the outcome in the hands of the driver and not the flagman or pit strategy. Would also eliminate the need for debris and competition yellows. God forbid that would make it about real racing and not computer models and gas management.Originally posted by kendo View PostNascar should do this at Daytona during speed week & during the week leading up to the Coke 400 weekend...Fans love dirt racing and this is a no brainer....I always suggested making that go kart track bigger and add some grandstands.

Biggest complaint was such a huge penalty for being in 2nd on the restarts. Other than that i loved it. Very entertaining. A lot of that had to do w Larson running the hell out of that thing.
Wish NASCAR in general would go to that sort of show format. The qualifying races meant something, the segments were short enough that you had to make your moves but still knew there would be a caution to bunch it up. If they made all of the Truck and Nationwide races like that I would be much more likely to watch them. With the element of longevity and durability becoming more and more irrelevant in today's NASCAR motors, the 400 milers and above are just a waste of time. Format was a huge factor in my enjoyment of the race.

Well... If you liked that... you should see Sprint Cars there... Them Trucks looked like they were running 150 pace laps compared to Sprints at Eldora... The guys that ran Sprints and Midgets there in the '50s and '60s had to have a big set running with no roll cage...

After all the buildup, there was a lot of anticipation for sure. I had my doubts after watching the trucks crawl around that track during practice, but Tony and his staff knew what they were doing with track prep for the heavy trucks and the race was great. just watching Norm Benning fight every inch of the way to get into the feature was worth the price of a ticket. I hope it continues to be on the schedule.
There are some things Tony will have to change about the event. He wasted way too much time and money on promoting the race. Maybe they do things different in Ohio, but here in Florida all you have to do is open the front and back injectors and wait for people to show up. And what's with all those damn billboards cluttering up the scene? We don't need race sponsors in Florida, it would only mean more work for the track announcer. Limit your track to 5 or 6 sponsors Tony.
I'd also recommend no contact with the racers. We've seen here in Florida that talking one on one to the racers at your track just doesn't pay off.
And last, races have to be run on Saturday nights. We've never really tried anything like Wednesdays, but the promoters and track owners here in Florida say it can't be done, so you should look at moving it to Saturdays.
So, nice job Tony, NASCAR, and all the racers. But you'll save yourself some real problems if you just do things exactly the way we do at Florida tracks.

I am not so sure I would use the"Florida Model"But maybe that is what Orlando, Hendry,Bronson' Ellisville and Putnam are using. I think they did just fine and the success they had with a midweek show further underscores that. The comments on Yahoo and other venues have been some of the most positive I have seen in quite some time. I wonder if Bruton will put clay on Bristol again.Originally posted by Matt Albee View PostAfter all the buildup, there was a lot of anticipation for sure. Ca$hcar and dirt?
I've liked them Dillon bros. since I saw them at Volusia few yrs. back, I still think they are better on dirt. also Daytona's Kart track would never work because it ain't dirt, it's lime rock, and hard enough to get ahold of with our open 2-stroke karts, plus it's primary reason for exisisting is the AMA flat trackers during bike week, it's a real obvious fact that The DIS folks don't like for the fans to go to other venues and spend their cash there, they want it all to stay at the big track.
