No Bellhousing? No exotic trans? I know Bert and Brinn trans are not cheap. My locker I just put in was $650 brand new (not $1500). What about the chassis. Most guys change chassis once a year or 2 from all the flexing they do and pawn the old one off to some other poor schmuck. When I go to Tennessee I go to the local dirt tracks and some of them have enough aluminum wheels and tires in the rack to cover my nightly expenses for an entire season. Different compound for the track conditions, different offset wheels for the track conditions, different tire/wheel combination for track conditions and so on. One guy at Cleveland Speedway must have had 30+ wheels (all aluminum)/tires in his rack for various conditions. I asked him why so many and that's what he told me. I like to watch a good dirt race but as far as racing/owning one, no thanks. Worked on one when I was in my teens and got tired of feeling gritty/dirty all the time. The end result it probably is a wash when everything is said and done.

Why have a race car if you don't race?

I was talking about Florida dirt cars. Only Spec tires in Florida.
Bert ball spline tranny is about the the cost of a 5.5" clutch and lightweight bellhousing. It's direct drive and has an internal clutch and they are bullet proof. They should be allowed on pavement.
I was comparing top of the line vs top of the line. A HighTower tranny will cost u around $3,800 and Gleason or Track Star will cost you around $1500 retail. You can get by just fine with a locker and Muncie but I was comparing apples to apples.

Comparing a Florida pavement SLM, to a Florida/Georgia dirt LM with spec motor, and spec tires.. If you were to build the two from scratch using very good equipment, the dirt car will cost about 70 to 80 percent of what the pavement car costs... The operating costs of the dirt car, week to week, excluding unforseen damage (crashes, blown engines, etc).. The dirt car costs Roughly 60% of what the pavement car does to operate.. And more often than not, you are running for at least the same amount of money, or more.. I have "been there, done that".. not getting my info from anyone but my own experience doing all of the aforementioned..
Dirt isn't for everyone, Asphalt isn't for everyone, Drag racing isn't for everyone, Road racing isn't for everyone.. and golf isn't for everyone.. I personally respect the hell out of anyone that can do any of those well.....Last edited by Rich Pratt; 06-17-2013, 09:07 PM.

Cost to much, crappy half ass tech and the you need me more then I need you mentality. Used to race every Friday and Saturday but gave it up when I became apparent that it was going the way of elementary dodgeball(unorganized and meaningless ) just sayin!
