  • FL United Promoters Series Update

With summer shortly around the corner we thought it would be a good time to give everyone an update of the series. The principals of FUPS Racing are the track promoters and owners, if your track hosts a series race then you are part of FUPS Racing and have a say in all decisions. Currently the three principals are Mike Reed and Don Cretty from Citrus Co. and Rex Guy of Auburndale; we are very appreciative of their support for providing the tracks for FUPS.

The series director and promoter is Rick Williams with Shawn Reutimann our race director, Mike Rensberger, Mike Masey, & Jimmy Blake as our tech team. This is our team for all divisions, Trucks, Sportsman, OWM, SLM and Legends. All tech decisions, race calls, rules, etc. come from this group. We added the Trucks to our divisions after past Pro Truck Promoter Rick Bristol decided to step away to pursue more time with his family and church. We appreciate his hard work and time to make the Truck Series a premier event here in Florida and we are committed to carry that on with not only the trucks but all the FUPS divisions. We would like to remind all of our competitors that if you have a question, comment or concern that you would like to present please, e-mail or call one of our team Shawn, Mike or myself and we will listen.

We always encourage the FUPS competitors to support other tracks when not racing with the series; this will strengthen the FUPS brand by showing support. We still are having conversations with other tracks to add to the FUPS series possibly as early as later this season and we will continue to chase other venues for events. We wish success to all tracks and hope that we can hold FUPS events at all of them in the very near future.

We have tried different ideas this first half to make our series more “racer friendly”, have they all worked, No they haven’t but we tried. We will continue to try different things not only for the racers but the fans and track as well. Some stuff we will change for the next races in all divisions is re-starts; we will revert back to single file. This change comes after numerous calls, emails and tore up race cars. Although we feel that double file restarts puts on a better show for the fans it has been shown this year that on these short tracks it just tears up too much equipment. Another change will be “Tire Impound” for the SLM shows; we feel this is the only way to deter any altering of the tires. Tech in the Trucks & Sportsman will tighten up, read the rule, follow the rules, don’t bend the rules. If you try to beat the system be prepared to pay the consequences.

We have a very strong sponsor contingency with our partners, Sunoco, Hoosier, Racecar Engineering, Finish Line Fabrication, Progressive Race Engines, and Alan Jay Automotive Network making up the main contributing group for the points fund for all classes. Five Star Bodies, All-star Performance, AR Bodies, Bassett Wheels, Howe, Advance Suspension, AP Brakes, Auto Meter, Joes Racing Products, Rev Racing Valves, Hamner Racing Engines, Sweet, & Butler Built make up our race to race contingency sponsors. We ask that your support these companies when making a purchase.

We want to thank everyone who has competed with FUPS so far this season and all of the fans who have attended our races. We are committed to making the FL United Promoters Series one of the best series to have promoted events here in FL. We will continue to seek our venues for events for all divisions and grow the FUPS Brand. For more info on our series follow us at www.floridapromotersseries.com or like us on Facebook.

      Single file re-starts......... booooo.

Get ready for the parade, because that's what you'll be watching. If there's too many cars getting torn up, it's a lack of skill and patience from the drivers, not a problem with the procedure. There are lots of series that use the double-file all the time, and they don't wipe out half the field because of it.

Might as well just start them straight up, and go single file on the original start also.

I go to the tracks to see a RACE..... not fast cars following each other around an oval. It's tough enough to have a good show on asphalt with LM's, and you just killed any chance of seeing a good show.

Count this guy out from now on.

As a driver, double file restarts make for fun racing unless you are surrounded by untalented drivers. As a fan, double file restarts make for excitement.

I say do away with single car qualifying (except for races of 200 laps or more) and run qualifying heats... Gives the fans a real show... I also don't like the idea of a halfway break on big tracks like they do now for the Governor's Cup at NSS... It really dumbs-down the event... It was always more fun watching teams play out different strategies...

if you can start the race double file
why cant you restart the race double file?
What changes to need single file?
Tighten the belts and hang on

I like the double file re-starts over single file. Skill level needs comes into play this way. It is much better for the race fan also. I would like to see the series go with all the classes on the same night. That would be a great show for the fans. Super lates, OWM, sportsman, trucks and legends. Lot's of quality for their buck. Should bring real big crowds. Would make it easier on the officials also. Just a thought.

payout would be too large for a track to make any money running them all at one time. if the track does not make money, guess what, no track to run at.

Excellent idea. It would help to stop the destructive trend of the "minimalist" show like a few tracks put on: 4 or 5 classes and features only. Those don't draw flies, and I like the big event like you propose.

The payouts should be covered fairly easy just from the back gate and entry fee's for each class. Not to mention the tire, fuel and concession sales from the back gate. The tracks would not lose money I don't believe. It would be worth looking into I believe!

                          Single file restarts

Why not do cone races. That way the guys that are afraid to go to the outside can stay in line and the guys that can and will race can jump to the outside!!

I have seen thousands of good races, where the re starts were single file. Racers at this level can not afford double file starts, cautions breed cautions. Every caution is costing someone hundreds of dollars, if not thousands. Racers seem more aggressive today then ever before. I would think the single file starts will eventually cause an increase in car counts, due to the fact of less cars being tore up. The tracks need to bring back the weekly demo derby class for all the fans that want to see tore up cars, and for some of the people on this board that think single file re starts will destroy racing. You could start the demo derby cars four wide.

A good race to me is seeing someone work over another car, inside and out, to make the pass, coming from mid pack, having his car outlast the competitions.. Double file re starts do not make a race, to me?.

"racers at this level" is the same damn level as anywhere else in the short track world. Bowman Gray Stadium, another 1/4 mile bullring, is THE most successful show in short track racing, on a very difficult-to-pass track, yet they do double file restarts.

                              Why.....?

Because its a show for the fans. And it's all the drivers know. They are used to it, and its just part of the norm.

Fans are interested in a RACE, not a high speed parade.
