  • PASS 200 at Auburndale

Have you ever heard of Joey Doiron? Me neither.

UNTIL last night when I watched him win the 200 lapper at Auburndale. I like this guy! I hope he sticks around for the World Series at NSS.

Joey is a competitor from the PASS series who towed down from Maine to run the opening event. He and Florida driver Joe Boyd went at it for the entire 200 laps, and it wasn't settled until Joey made an open-track pass for the lead with 8 laps to go.

Mr. Boyd and Mr. Doiron put on a heck of a race. They had some supporting players, but it was these two who went after each other: swapping the lead under green a few times, or when running side by side after a restart. They ran about as clean as you can at Auburndale (meaning no one went off on the hook), although Joey did rough up Jeff Scofield early on and lived to tell the tale.

Best thing about Joey Doiron? He was very aggressive and never gave up, not for a lap.

The PASS series brought some good racers to Florida, including LM stars Ben Rowe and Jay Fogelman. I got a kick out of Jay's son Tate Fogelman. He finished 7'th (I think) and ran a very clean race. The problem is that this 12 year old driver, although he is capable, is too young in my opinion to be doing what he is doing. He is another in the parade of very young drivers who will build our sport in the near future, but who have us all worried at the present time.

At 150 laps, only 3 cars had dropped out, and there had been very little lapped traffic. The attrition ticked up toward the end, but everyone stayed pretty racey the whole time.

It was a good night for Auburndale Speedway! They had a big crowd, and it looked like everyone went home happy. Auburndale has the best bathrooms that I've seen at a track, and really the whole place is neat, clean and ready to race. If I could make one suggestion for a capital improvement, work on the PA system. It was pretty weak and very difficult to hear. Now that NSS has invested in speakers, it would be a nice change to see at Auburndale too.

You are correct sir!! He is quite a driver and one I had not heard about until a few days ago. I can tell you this, I had talked to Joey and his mom and dad before the race and then again after and what a great group of people! It has been 12 hours and I still can't believe that pass he made, going into 1 and he did it on the outside without touching the other driver.
It was great seeing you there!!

This was my second trip to Auburndale for latemodel race and I have not been disappointed either time the pass race was a good race with plenty of hard racing. I agree with Rex on the bathrooms and how well kept the place is. The price was not to bad to get in.

I don't know what happened with the figure 8 cars, I was hoping to see them run as well but from my view point the night ran very well and it was nice to see a crowd like that at a track.

          I saw Citrus had 15 LM's.

How many were at Alburndale? To bad that they couldn't of only had one race to choose from. I saw Wayne, Steve, and many other top racers on the results from Citrus......

Oops, I forgot a tip of the hat to Joe Boyd. He ran hard and clean all night, and led much of a race where he ended up finishing second. I am sure he was disappointed, but he was also the first guy to offer a handshake to the winning driver. A classy move that did not go unnoticed!

I heard someone ask the new promoter and he said none showed up to run the figure 8 class. But all in all a great super and modified race.

I asked Mr. Guy about the figure 8's, and he said that so many got torn up at Showtime last week, that he didn't think he could get a full field. The class was dropped from the show during the week.

                        PASS series at Auburndale speedway

Good race and great finish at Auburndale.congrats to Joey Doiron from Maine, wirh a back and forth race between Doiron and Joe Boyd.Boyd led the. most laps, starting on the pole.

besides Doiron from Maine,B.J. Shae and his son driving #60 and 68.There were also drivers from Quebec canada as well as New Brunswick Canada.Drivers from New Hampshire and Rhode Island were there as well.

While Boyd led most of the laps,he traded the lead with Doiron twice, before Doiron secured the lead for good on lap 196.I talked to him during the autograph session, and he had work at his shop in Maine,so he had to get back.Good luck traeling in 3 feet of snow.

Jay Fogelman and his son Tate from Durham NC were there, with Jay finishing 4th.You might remember Fogelman,a past PASS champion,as well when he competed in NASCAR in the early 90's.

The locals did well, besides Boyd finishing second,Jeff Scofield finished third, and Jonathan Guy fifth.

Myonly complait was not enough races.I don't even count bandolero's,with only 3.The Legend race with a 12 car field was good.I think the Open Wheel Modified division,is dying out in Florida.Only 9 for the 50 lapper at Auburndale, and I cant even tell you who won.

I agree it was a good race, but the OWM class for sure isn't dying out in Florida. It is still growing, it's just that a lot of guys don't agree with things being done at certain places, and that is why they don't show up...also I heard Showtime had a race scheduled for the Mods last saturday night as well.

We would have been there with our Modified but we had prior arrangements.
