Bob Jenkins was always so smooth. And I loved Tom Sneva during the 500 a few years ago...Ofcourse got to give a call to Brad Doty and Dave Argabright is getting better...Didn't Despain do the racing show on TBS? It usually followed Orlando Wilson fishing and before wrestling.

Worst were those Speed Freaks at the Chili Bowl. And any Napcar announcer who says "these are the best 43 drivers in the world." Are you kidding me? Kenny Wallace struggles to get top 3's at Volusia during Speedweeks.

Almost ALL of them suck... I don't know if I could name 3 good ones.

Larry McReynolds is horrible, and makes this sport look country bumpkin-ish. Same goes for DW and his "Boogity" nonsense. Marty Smith looks like a bobble-head doll.... watch it flop around like a slinky. I didn't like Bob Dillner at first, but he does a lot for racing besides being an announcer. Nothing against women at all, but these women in the pits never seem to have any good questions, just the standard "How does it feel to win?", or "What were you thinking as you were about to crash?" garbage.... nothing of substance at all. All these bozos treat the audience as if it was there first time ever tuning in to a Nascar race. We race fans ARE knowledgeable... treat us that way, instead of catering to new fans. If they haven't gotten on the bandwagon yet, they aren't about to anytime soon either.

I always liked Barney Halls voice, and Eli Golds delivery. Benny Parsons brought a lot of wisdom as far as what was happening to a car during a race (tire going down, loose/tight condition, other mechanical stuff). Steve Evans, although a Drag Racing expert, was an absolute PRO. Knew everyone, could talk the jargon of Drag racing, and delivered his message very well. He was exciting to listen too, because he himself WAS excited. On more of a local level, Jack Miller knew Sprint cars inside and out, and literally everyone in the sport. He would get to the tracks early, prepare notes, and took the time to find out how to pronounce each drivers name. Sounds like an obvious task, but too many announcers just don't have a clue (like Wolf Bowers at Citrus, asking Bruce Gaskins if it's the first time he's been to the track.... the guy is a multi-time track champion there!). Hank Sanders was also a good PA man.

Hard to find many guys (or girls) out there, past or present that I like. In general though, I like the ones who were racing people FIRST and then learned to announce. I don't really like announcers who later on learned about racing. Their lack of knowledge always shows up pretty quickly.

Chip Green RULED at Palm Beach and Hialeah. Bob (can't remember his frickin' last name, dammit...) and Larry MacMillan when they were at Inverness on Fridays and St. Pete on Saturdays. Dickie Edwards and the "Holy COW!" announcer (what the heck was that guy's name...?? Jack Miller...?? He called the Knoxville Nationals and Eldora races for years, too...) at Golden Gate in its later years.

Never got the opportunity, I don't think, to ever hear Solie at the 'Gate. Don't know who the announcer(s) were during the mid to late '70s at the Governor's Cup races.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be an announcer, a flag man, etc....

I called a buncha R/C races in Ft. Pierce and Vero over the years when I was still back home.
