Thanks Trevor! I'll pass the word along. You did an excellent job with the Sportsman Challenge website. It was very professional. I'm sure the offer to do it for free will be greatly appreciated. Things are coming together!

I'll be headed over to Citrus this weekend, the open rules at Desoto drive away the guy's that are racing on a budget, and/or legal.

        Patrick Thomas 25

Lets get this series thing goin, it sounds as if the wheels are beginning to turn and people are starting to talk, I can't wait.

I will be going to Desoto this weekend and HOPE to see a strong field of sportsman cars. If the interest is there...who knows where that may GO!

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! The secret's out. Scott Jackman, old director of the Southern Sportsman Series AND Rick Williams, director of the Florida United Promoter's Late Model Series are interested in the possibility of reviving the excitement of the great Southern Sportsman Series. I can't think of two better men to make this happen. Get on board people and support this deal! Like they say in they say in the classifieds, THANK YOU KARNAC! SPORTSMAN RACING WILL BE BACK IN A BIG WAY IN 2013!!!

Patrick i think that's cool you are going to citrus to maybe get your count them 5th win in a row from 3 different tracks but you shouldn't detour any of the other sportsman guys from coming to Desoto. Their rules have not changed anything from what i can see. I have got two wins down there so far and I always seem to be getting passed by you when we race.( Damn i hate that) so i think the budget racer has a better chance beating me at desoto for 400 to win, than beating you at citrus for 400 to win. Just my opinion. You know i still love ya though. (Like a West Virginia step brother) L O L

Can someone tell me why when you have a Crate motor your never cheating, but when you build a 2 barrel motor you have to be cheating. I get that the 602 is a good motor with a lot of advantages(4 barrel) but I have seen just as many "CRATE MOTORS" busted as built motors..

@Bill86. I don't see anywhere in this thread where anyone is saying Crates are always legal and Open Motors are always cheating. This is why all the racers at the Sportsman Challenge meeting agreed that Crates and Open motors need to be checked the same. Break the seals and check them alike with their respective rules. I think Patrick was saying if you indeed are illegal (Crate or Open) then Desoto's "Outlaw Sportsman" rules would be beneficial to you since there are essentially no motor rules except for the 2 BBL. While that is correct in theory, I don't believe that is why John went to Open rules. I assume John went to Open rules to allow ANY Sportsman to run at his track without having the worry or expense to have to change your car from your home track rules. Hell, he'll even let you run your Good Years. It is more of an "Open Arms" approach rather than a "Cheaters Welcome" approach. I DO agree that this rules package puts us Crate guys at a significant disadvantage on a "Motor" track like Desoto. Be that as it may, there are a TON of Open motors out there, so if your not running regularly why not let all that Horsepower fly at Desoto and avoid the point chasers at Citrus and Punta Gorda this weekend? We need ALL Sportsman guys to go out and support SOME track as much as possible to show the viability of there being enough support for a Series. People in high places are talking and more importantly WATCHING...

What would a Sportsman Touring Series field look like? Probably like this (I based this on what drivers have been traveling around the past few years):

                          1 Bart Weatherford
                          6 Dave Davis
                          07 Scott Garrity
                          10 George Gorham
                          10 Derrick Woods
                          12 David Williamson
                          12 Trevor Veasey
                          13 Aaron Williamson
                          13 Mark Madieros
                          16 Patrick Mennenga
                          17 Blaise Hetznecker
                          21 Devin McLeod
                          25 Patrick Thomas
                          32 Shelton Bowers
                          33 Ricky Woods
                          45 Mike Soukop
                          51 Chris Harvey
                          56 Brandon Morris
                          57 Chad Pierce
                          66 Andy Nicholls
                          67 James Dubose
                          68 Gary McFall
                          69 Mike Bresnahan
                          73 Mark Peterson
                          79 Steve Gainey
                          90 Cody Johnson
                          98 Roger Welch
                          111 Donny Williams
                          199 Brent Jenkins

                          29 Cars, I guess we'd need a B-Main!

If I left you out, chime in!

Why would you need a "B-main"? Start all 29 cars. I've seen 'em start 36 Late Models at St. Pete, so 29 Sportsman cars shouldn't be a problem *anywheres*...

I like your thinking Jimmy. If we could indeed get 29 Sportsman competitors to come out to support a deal like this, no one deserves to go home without racing. The Sportsman division is a field of just that, Sportsmen. If any division could handle starting 29 cars without it being a mess it would be these gentlemen that I am fortunate enough to race with. It is almost entirely a field of working-class veterans and even the younger drivers in the division drive everyone with respect. Every division has a bad night from time to time, but they seem far and few between with the guys I race with.

Punta Gorda now on Hoosiers! Also they are asking on their website if any Touring Series wants to run there then to contact the speedway. Sounds like another great track that the new Sportsman Series can run just for the asking!
