When we went to Bowman Gray this year for vacation we went to Carolina Speedway on Friday night. They allow coolers of any size to be brought in the grandstands along with food. They do have a free re-entry policy. There were around 2500 - 3000 people there for a regular Friday night show. At Bowman Gray it is the same way except they do limit the cooler size but you are allowed to bring in food. There opening night was over 19000 people.

I use to go to a track in NY that had this policy. It was usually a small group of us and I use to bring my kids. If you have had kids, you know things get left in the car, whether it's forgotten, thought it might not be needed, or just an unusual situation. It wasn't about beer. I don't drink beer at a track but I would take a cooler in of soft drinks and water. I bought food, if I was allowed to bring in a cooler. If coolers aren't allowed in, we will not buy food at the track. Just the way I felt about it. Anyway, we stopped going to that track every weekend. I usually went with at least two kids, and almost always 3 or more other adults. So that track lost at least 4 adult and 2 student ticket sakes each week, as well as concession sales, from us alone. There happened to be an ice cream stand right across the street and I think they were trying to stop people from going there, although they said the insurance company required the policy. I don't know. They were the only track that had it in NY at the time. Anyway, I know I was not the only one that felt that way and the track still has the policy. Every year there are people complaining about it but they still do it. I'm sure it's cost them much more that they have profited from it.
Let me reiterate, I don't smoke anything. I don't drink when I have kids with me or have to drive. I believe the track did allow small coolers so that wasn't the issue at that track. But kids would forget their jackets or it would suddenly turn cold, or there would be a brief rain shower and clothes needed changing, or the kids inhaler or other medication was left in the car. No matter how careful you think you are when leaving the car to enter the track, it seems things get left behind. Particularly when the kids hear the cars warming up and other spectators are running to the track so they don't miss anything. My photo site: http://www.rewingphotos.com

Oh yeah, I always make it a point to buy my dinner at the race track and beer too if I'm in the mood. Or have cotton mouth really bad.sigpic

It's been several years since Fonda dropped the no re-entry policy and you can once again go across the street to the Dairy Bar...Last edited by dirtballer69; 05-19-2012, 09:06 PM.

I know it ain't much, but between the 2 of us, we'd have spent $40-$50 there. Until this policy goes away, I'm boycotting both Bronson and Desoto.
Great thinking by these promoters.... so worried that their customers might have a beer and a piece of chicken that they didn't buy from the track, that they lost out on some paid admissions. They are also thinking "big deal... we lost 2 sales"..... but there a lot more like me that are out there that aren't vocal about it. They just stay home, or find another form of entertainment.
-JIM-RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.
