OJ and RSB, please don't piss on the parade. I have been working on a racetrack business plan for a number of years hoping to someday use it to operate a racetrack. Alot of the knowledge and expertisms is like beating a dead horse but that reinforces the fact that those topics are set in stone "quality track management" topics. Also there has been some fresh and new ideas presented that are being added to the business plan.

I have a few friends that presently own/operate racetracks here in Florida. I can assure you that they read KARNAC and have already commented on some of the ideas presented in this thread. Now we all know they won't implement everything we suggest, but the more we beat the dead horse the more it gets instilled in their heads. Actually, I hope they don't follow the good advice cause if the door of opportunity opens for me, I'll kick their asses with all the expert advise I've been given.

I think the point is that we, the drivers, want these tracks to succeed because they are our local tracks. I don't want to drive 5 hours each way to go to five flags, but I do it because the racing at my local tracks sucks. I want to race with 25 cars, not 5. I want people in the stands watching and having a good time, if I'm going to tear up a late model or risk tearing it up to make passes and drive my ass off I want someone there to see it and enjoy seeing it. I guess maybe we are hoping they will read this and change their ways, but like I said in a previous post I doubt it will happen. Maybe the racers should unite and boycott the track until they make some changes, force them to do it. Getting seven cars in each class is just enough for them to make their money and not care...if there are no cars I bet they will care. I know this is negative talk and a step in the wrong direction, I'm just play devil's advocate to your post about nobody reading or caring about this discussion.

please tell me even ONE TIME where a promoter or owner has taken a suggestion from the pages of KARNAC

In 2010, Speedworld parked some racecars by SR 50 on a day when there was a shuttle launch, and the street was full of traffic. They also did non-winners races, and let the strictly stocks in for free.

Osmo, I do get your point however. You and I share the same frustration: that there is so little response to the status quo at several tracks. Times are bad, and we desperately want to see our local tracks do better.

No matter what has happened in the past, I like De Soto's show for this weekend: they have the crowd pleasing sprints, and the open Sportsman race. They have changed from the same old thing and I hope the track does great!

Mod racer said it preety good,so it made me think.
Sucsesfull tracks.Ocala--brought monie to make monie, advertise, simple show 4 classes clean racetrack.Citrus--longevity,doesnt change rulz yr to yr to bennifit from the racers, people feel they own the track the track is part of the city.

            None sucessfull-Putnam,diffrent owners none consitant,
VCS diffrent owners or promoters.OSW lost the life blood of the racetrack.

            Summary--Be consistant
Rules must bennifit both parties, driver and track.
Must have interest from the younger crowd and NOT cost 3500 for
            a bomber!
Must have at least a 3 year plan and it cost monie,it MUST be
an INVESTMENT.It is a business and you must treat it as ONE!!
When you treat people FAIR they will respect you and come back
            for more.

Really, dude? I mean....*really*? I seen FOUR of these in two different threads from the same poster. Can't you add at least a constructive comment to your "bump"?

On another note, something else I was thinking about today.

All this talk about getting "new blood" involved. I remember...again..."back in the day"....when race track had *things to do* all season for kids: Kids' rides once a month, model car contests, a "junior Miss So-and-So Speedway", Big Wheel and bicycle races....stuff to *keep* the kids entertained.

Something else I was thinking of doing. I race R/C (radio-controlled) race cars once in a while. I was thinking of getting a group of these guys together to set up a display behind the grandstands. "Real race-car" fans could see that they could get involved "racing" at a local R/C track.

Get some driver souvenirs - T-shirts, printed pictures, etc. Fans could buy their favorite drivers' stuff, maybe some rivalries would develop not only ON the race track, but maybe some excitement in the stands as well

Autograph/photo sessions on the grandstand side.

Get together with one other track (since we're running two tracks here...LOL), and put together a REAL Triple Crown weekend again - a Friday/Saturday/Sunday afternoon show.

Run holiday special-distance features - Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day. (Up in Wisconsin, for July 4th, I think it was Madison that put on Triple 100-lappers - the Red/White/Blue series - all in one race night. The field was inverted for each 100-lapper, and the driver with the lowest total finishing positions in the three races was the overall champ).

Three guys that knew how to run race tracks? Leo Musgrave, Dan Jones (both from St. Pete), and Frank Dery (at Tampa/Golden Gate).

                  Just sayin'.
