  • Reutimann in trouble with Nascar...

David was called to the "Big Red Trailer" after today's race, for causing a needless caution with only a few laps to go.

This was out of character for David, and I think I have a theory: in that 10 car, he is a Stewart-Haas teammate. If I remember correctly, didn't Tony just get lapped, and in a position to get the Lucky Dog? Newman was also in the top-5, but no chance to win without a caution.

I have a feeling team orders told him to stay out on track (with what was reported as 2 flat tires, and no brakes) and cause that caution. He had nothing to lose, yet his teammates had everything to gain. That caution changed the ENTIRE complexion of the outcome of the finish.

I don't think David, or ANY Reutimann would resort to this kind of manipulation... not without direct orders from the folks that write the checks... and it sure wouldn't be the first time a scripted caution that helped a teammate has occured. I just didn't think David would be part of that scenario.

      Good evening, sir...

      ...and welcome to the Apocalypse.

Root selling his soul was one of the signs that was prophesied in the Book of Revelations....right?

It's only a matter of time now.

Actually Jerry, they were trying to keep the car in the top 35 in points. They had team mate Dave Blaney pull his car in and park. In three more laps David R. would have passed Blaney and would have stayed in the top 35. He was trying to limp around with a broken tie rod and was trying to take it to the pits because he'd been black flagged. The engine just quit on the car and wouldn't coast or anything. They couldn't get it running again. He said if they could have got it running they would have gone out and got those three laps but it just wouldn't start.
Sucks for all of them. Sucks for Blaney having to park so Reutimann can keep the car in points for Danica. Sucks that there even has to be a top 35 guaranteed starters. They really need to just let the fastest cars qualify. Reutimann is taking a bunch of heat for this and I hate to see it for him. He had a rear brake catch fire early in the race and they fixed that and sent him back out with only 3 brakes. Then the other rear brake caught fire and he pitted for that. He a whole bunch of laps down and just trying to get laps with only the front brakes on the car working.

            That was funny.....

....but it would have been better if you had photo shopped Stewart's face for Charlton Heston's....I mean, Moses'....

              So, generally speaking, Bob......

              It just plain sucks.

And by it, of course, I'm referring to NASCAR.
Evil Empire that it is, and all.

I'm building a time machine that will transport us all back to any year from 1950 to 1990 so we can all be happy for just a little while. It shouldn't be that hard cuz we're not looking to go back HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of years ago like in all the movies......we just need to go back a few years ago.

              Back when racing was still......racing.

And everything was a little more......groovy....back when Jerry wore bell bottoms, an afro and a big, gold necklace when he would go disco-roller skating.............

              Now, please.
Bone, Todd or somebody make a photoshop of that frightening image.

Wow, when I first read this, I thought ??? .... But, I just watched a replay of the last 20 laps (see link below), and if you watch the ticker at the top, it appears that a lap after Tony Stewart passed Greg Biffle, to become the first car one lap down, Ruty stopped on the track.

That allowed Stewart to get the Lucky Dog, and eventually finish 7th.

What are the odds??? Seems very odd to me. I would think someone in the Nascar media would write a story about this, even if there's nothing to it.

The only reason David stayed out as long as he did is simple, to stay in the top 35 in points, as it ended up, he is 1 point out in 36th. His timing belt broke and the car quit on him without him having any opportunity to exit the track.

As for Bowyer, he is an ASSHOLE....after the race he calls David an idiot for stopping on the track. If David doesn't bring out the caution he doesn't have a chance in hell of winning, but the caution gave him the chance to maybe win. He should thank him, instead of showing what a 'no driving MORON' he is.

A broken timing chain won't stop a car in it's tracks... it will still coast, at least far enough to make it down pit lane.

The whe thing just looks reeeeeaaaaaalllll suspicious to me.... and it worked out VERY well for SHR.

So far, I've heard 2 flats, no brakes, broken tie-rod, and broken timing chain. If all that were true, that car wouldn't run, steer, handle, or stop.

I think he was told to limp it around long enough for Stewart to get the Lucky Dog (which he did), which would also give Newman some hope for a win (which they also got).

I would take that trade in a heartbeat, even if it meant falling out of the top 35 for Danica's benefit. No matter what, NASCAR will make SURE that 10 car is IN the next race she drives it.

And David gets to be the goat in all this. Reminds me of Charlie Browns Halloween..... "I got a rock...."

Just saw Davids interview. Seemed like a very sincere defense that there is no way he would do something like that on purpose. I think he does have the integrity that the Reutimanns always have shown.

I listen to some different new sources and one of the local stations reported David ran out of gas. Some of these reports they pull out of a hat somewhere.

Fact: He was told to stay out and get points so they could remain in top 35. He would have passed Blaney in three more laps. That was what he was trying to do.

Fact: He broke a tie rod and was limping around. He was unable to maintain speed and was black flagged by Nascar. I don't believe he had any flat tire. I heard the announcer say that also, but look at who is announcing now.

Fact: He was headed to the pit lane when the car just shut off. He said it could be a timing belt or something else. They didn't know what caused it to shut off. They couldn't diagnose it so they could restart it. The engine had been running bad for about 20 laps previous to this. Reutimann stated in an interview that he hoped NASCAR would confiscate the engine and take it to the R&D center and determine what was wrong with the engine. He said that is the only way he could clear his name.

FACT: OJ is correct. It all sucks. LOL The guaranteed starts for the top 35 is basically a franchise system for the teams. They were never able to franchise their teams with Nascar before, but this system essentially gives the teams value for their standing in the points. They can buy, sell, trade or who know what, with the team points now. OJ, when you get that time machine built, take me back to the early 80's.

I had the race on the television and watched almost none of it. I was trying to work on the computer but I did have Davids radio tuned into my computer. I could hear what was being said. I was actually quite surprised at how calm he remained after he first lost his brakes and went down several laps. He remained calm even after losing all the rear brakes. He was trying to stay out of the way and just finish a race that was "too long". For a while I actually listened to Tony Stewart. At that time he was struggling and I think he went a lap down. I switched back to Davids channel and lost track of Steward. I was surprised he got a decent finish. Tommy Baldwin is struggling to make his business work. He's a little guy trying to run with the big money teams. I hate that he parked Blaney and had Reutimann running a car that should have been properly repaired before it went back on the track. But, I can understand why he did it. If cars had to qualify on their time only, and not be concerned about their point standings, this would not have happened.

Here's a link to a statement by John Darby, Nascar sprint cup director. It basically vindicates Reutimann and verifies the suspension and engine failure. He said Reutimann did not play into the outcome of the race. In another interview, Tommy Baldwin basically said the same thing. He said David didn't make those guys wreck each other.
                              Anyway, check this link out.
