When it comes to racing, I think there is a touch of jealousy by many because they did not have parents that could or would fund their racing career. We can't choose our parents can we. Ross is lucky enough to have parents that are able to support him in his racing ventures. I bet he appreciates his parents assistance and they are proud of their son. Good luck to them ! I wish I had parents like that !
Raceing career? did jerry have a racing career?
Well i hope that all the kids get oll the help that they are willing to work for in racing. Rusty came to florida in a borrowed haller and broke. His parrents spent there savings on his first bush car . ( ASA rookie that year)
Jeef Gorden cane to east bay when he was 14 with a cup haller with a sprint in it...No money?? come on.

Each was plucked out of lower divisions by car owners that saw the talents these guys had in the lower ranks.

I lot of comments had the "hasn't happened in 20 years" opinion, and I was merely pointing out that being an outstanding Short Track racer, still CAN get you to the top. Maybe with this chance, Ross will run impressively enough that some of the top owners in one of the top 3 series WILL take notice, and give the kid a shot at being a paid-professional race driver. Many times, the owners and crew chiefs "see something" in a particular driver that their results havent yet shown.

I followed Jimmie Johnsons path from ASA to Busch and on to Cup. I think he only had 1 win in each series before he was "noticed' by both Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick. I thought the guy was a no-talent hack that got lucky a few times. I couldn't have been more wrong, and they couldn't have been more right.

Exposure in front of the "right" people is invaluable............!
I re-read your message and I agree with what you said. A kid can "make it", if they put an extreme effort towards it have incredible talent like the Busch bro's or Jimmie.
But I will say, if that's your kid's goal, and as a parent you want to help make that happen, I think he has a much, much better chance initially renting as nice a ride as he, or his family can afford, and seeing what happens. Usually you get access to somewhat descent pit crews, experienced crew chiefs, hopefully a good engine program, etc.
I didn't see his schedule, but the other issue could be that like many rookie drivers, they are only qualified by NASCAR to run smaller tracks in the beginning, and work their way to bigger tracks. I don't know if he's running a complete year of racing or a partial season, but that usually plays a big part of how many "rent-a-rides" work.
Whatever the case....he got some publicity from the Karnac Board! Good luck to him, and now we'll all be pulling for Ross to do a great job and bring home a good finish. Qualify top 15, finish top 20 and bring it back in one piece would be a BIG accomplishment and build from there!

Don I'm not sure exactly if you are agreeing with me or busting my balls but since you quoted me, I'll explain. Anyway, what my post ment was, they are a good family and they are investing in their son's future. I think it is great.

And I LOVE watermelons! If I could come back in a different life, I swear I would grow watermelons or strawberrys! Plus, he's from Alva! Can't wait to hear that from the guys on SPEED. I just added him to my Facebook page now. He got more fans and didn't even know it!
"I want to thank the people from Watermelon.org, and make sure everyone eats MORE watermelon!"

Great website too! http://watermelon.org/ Check out the great recipes.

Dons memory is getting a little foggy on him. When Jeff Gordon came to Florida, he was 13 not 14, and his car was on an open trailer behind a van, not a Cup hauler like he claims. Not one single Sprint car team in the country had one at the time, and it sure wasn't Jeff Gordon that started it in 1985.

I guess this is gang-up-on-Frasson week.... no skin off my ass. All this BS is coming from people that could not handle the TRUTH. If any of you can find a single thing I've said that has been an outright un-truth, I will personally kiss your ass.

I work with the team so I'll leave it at that. Just want to give my opinion. You can believe me or not. You can disagree, but this is how it is. His dad has grown watermelons in Florida for over 20 years. Hard labor. He's made a good living. I've been to their shop and seen their equipment. It's nothing special. 350 crate motor that they've been racing with for 3 years I think the main reason he hasn't "tore up" local scene is because he doesn't have all that money as some people say. He has won with equipment far far less than his competitors. He finished 10th at LOR in his FIRST race out of late models in a truck that was under 20th in points. He won the 2011 World Series at New Smyrna in the late model, 75+ feature wins, Multiple track championships including Orlando Speedworld. Last year in the 5 races, Stacey gave them a huge break. When he finished 10th at LOR, he was basically in a ride he was given. It was a chance. I saw him his dad at every race shop for 3 months trying to get someone to give them the chance. When Stacey saw what he could do, they signed 4 more. This year with SS, he has SPONSORSHIP. He didn't buy a ride with his bank account. He's been searching for money for the past year. He needed a sponsor. He got one. If you've have seen him race, either in Nascar or on your local short track, you KNOW he has it. You can just see it. So can Nascar owners. Everyone is entitled to their opinion so bashing someone wont help. Frasson118, thanks for your interest in racing. Other than that, I'm just saying what I've seen. Just because someone hasn't got a ride on talent alone in a long time doesn't mean is still can't be done. Don't lose that hope.

Casey Roderick lost his Nationwide ride to Kyle Fowler because Fowler has the money...

                    Who is Kyle Fowler?

Biffle was running late models somewhere when Benny Parsons noticed him and had Roush give him a chance. That worked pretty good.

                    Dont forget Clay Greenfield...

Seems like a lot of folks here have already forgotten trashing Danica, stating that it was the money behind her that got her the ride. I'm sure that's got a lot to do with it but it all amounts to the same thing. A short walk may get you to the theater but only money gets you in to see the show.

I'm sure that her friends and family would put forth the sane arguments I'm seeing here if they read the posts bregarding her good fortune.

That takes the cake (along with unmentioned body parts) to question whether or not Frass has ever raced. He has done more for racing as a fan than many people who have raced. And probably to further his point, I'm willing to bet the main reason he hasn't raced is the cost. Everyone who has been around this has an idea of what it costs, and hard work is not what has gotten so many to the mythical "next level". If hard work was all it took, the Cup garage would have 1,000s of cars.

Good try dude......"watermelon" all over the #66 at Lucas Oil Raceway last year. Prof on Jayski's truck series paint scheme page.

.....No matter if it's Mom & Dad's, yours, drug profits, or a sponsorship deal...
NO MONEY = NO RIDE !!!!
Stacy Compton started the #66 truck team on the business platform to eventually make money.
Ross is no different than Justin Marks, Chris Cockrum, Max Gresham or Peyton Sellers ...the other "pay to play" drivers last year for the #66. All of them PAID for a chance.
