"worked very hard for...."? Tell it like it really is. Nobody drives for Dotter without writing a real fat check.

I hope the kid does well, but the truth of the matter is, that ride is available to anyone with enough 0000's at the end of the check they need to write.

What the hell is wrong with people? Can't you see something like this and just say "Good Luck" or "Great Job" or if you don't have anything nice to say about it just keep your damn Pie Hole shut and don't say anything at all!! Why would you take away from the goodness of this post and the people that are very proud of him? This kid is one of the nicest most respectful young men anyone could ever have the privilege to meet! With what snot nosed, arrogant, little punks that are out there now a days, he is such an awesome example of how they really should act!! GREAT JOB ROSS CHASTAIN, YOU DESERVE THIS AND ALL GOOD THAT COMES TO YOU!!

I have to agree with you. Ross is the epitome of a true racer. He and his dad have worked so hard. Dad is always with him and Mom close by... even his grandmother is popular at PGS as she is one of his best fans! No matter how hot or tired or busy Ross is, he stops in the grandstands and hugs and shakes hands with all of his fans. His manners are impeccable and his smile is infectious. Now all of that with his awesome ability to race a car, he has earned a place in NASCAR. I am sure it cost his family but like you said... money or no money, Ross is deserving and worthy.
His little brother is following in his steps and he too has flawless manners tho he is a bit shyer than Ross. ;-) Two young men who have been raised right!
ROSS!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! God bless and keep you safe!

You just wrote your self outa my book. I am a christian so I won't lamblast you but Jeff hit that nail square on the head. The Jack family I mean of which you are a member. If you can't say anything positive keep your mouth shut. All your vast knowlege of racing has taken you far. I DON'T REMEMBER EVER SEEING YOUR BUTT IN ANY SEAT OF ANYTHING THAT RESEMBLES A RACE CAR. Sorry to who ever started this positive thread but I just couldn't sit here and let that go with out saying something. Ross is what racers should be like. He is a well mannered young man that has a raft of talent behind the wheel of any thing he drives.

EZ with the rocks folks, your gonna hit Jerry in the head. Has anybody in the last 20 years made it to the upper levels on talent alone ? You need a bankroll or be hot like Danica. Relax, Jerry ain't the devil. He's only an outspoken Yankee.

                  ez & others....

my post was not aimed at Jerry but was an answer to Lindas great post.
unfortunately part of what Jerry says is true. if you dont have some financial backing, whether it be your own personal income or sponsorship, you will not get further than our short tracks. i dont ask the Ross's because it really isnt any of my business. ;-)
Jerry is kinda outspoken and abrupt but part of what he is saying is true. We are merely defending Ross because he is so loved at our speedway and very talented.
No more nasty talk please. it takes away from what was meant to be a POSITIVE post about a great kid/man. ;-)

Well, something needs to hit him in the head and smartin him up! On a positive post like this his opinion wasn't needed in anyway, I DON'T CARE how outspoken he is!! Again, this post was supposed to be a positive one.......WAY TO GO ROSS CHASTAIN, GREAT JOB!!!

My opinions are in NO WAY a slam on Ross Chastain. My slam is that it's another example of ride-buying. If you honestly believe that Bobby Dotter and Butch Miller picked him out of thousands of racers, gave him a cal and said "we want you to drive for us"..... you're living in a fantasy world.

Some racers still get to the upper levels on talent alone... not family money or ride buying. Unfortunately, the majority get there with a checkbook. That is the case here.

I have no doubts that Ross has talent... But he hasn't set the short-track world on fire. A handful of Truck and Limited Late wins are NOT an outstanding resume' that he belongs in Nascar.

Several drivers over the last few years have bought their way onto that SS-Greenlight Racing team. Drew Brannon, Joey Gase and Chris Eggleston all drove for this team.... 1 season each, and where are they now? Brannon is back in the family car looking for sponsorship.

I get you're feelings here.... great kid, good opportunity, chance of a lifetime.... all true I'm sure. It's also true that this didn't come together because of any of those reasons. It comes down to CASH.

Sorry if some of you don't like it, but I really don't care if you like my statements or not. Bob.... if you've written me off, it ain't gonna kill me. Jeff, you are welcomed to make me shut my "pie-hole". Apparently, the truth isn't what either of you wanted to hear. Again, too bad.

Now if Gibbs, Roush or Hendricks calls and says "Ross, we wanna Pay YOU to drive our equipment", I'll be the first to eat my words and offer a sincere Congrats.

Until then, face the truth... great kid not withstanding, this ride was bought and paid for, it's not like he got "drafted"'by the upper levels of racing.

Dang, I think some of you are pretty harsh on Jerry. JMO Apparently Ross is a local racer to some of you and you know him and what's going on with his career. If Jerry hadn't posted, I would have had no idea what was official. The original post didn't say. For that matter, no one has said yet that I can see. Apparently he has paid to drive some teams car in some form of racing. I still haven't heard what series. It is nice to see a young driver get so many people to vouch for his work ethic, talent, and manners. It's quite apparent he's a special individual and I wish him much success. It would be nice to see him make it. Apparently he's doing what is necessary to do that. It's unfortunate he has to take this route but it's the way this sport is played now. Probably the majority of us would do the same thing to jump start our child's career if we had the means to do it.
The so called upper tier of racing is so dependent on sponsors, money, and diversification that it's nearly impossible for a poor grass roots racer to ever make it. Right now I know a couple young racers who have moved to the Charlotte area so they might have the opportunity to break into big time racing. They are racing short tracks in the Charlotte area hoping to be noticed by someone. The two I'm thinking of have been quite successful locally in Florida. But what are the chances they will ever get a ride, or even an opportunity to test, with an actual competitive NASCAR team? I'd say pretty darn slim and I think that's the point Jerry was trying to make. Ask Jeff Choquett or even Mr. South what the chances of getting a ride without sponsorship money are?
