The picture of Honest Charley brings back a memory. At the inaaugural Daytona 500 he and I assume his son sat behind us in the stands. When the race was over I looked back and on the seats were 2 stickers "approved by Honest Charley" which was an iconic feature in his catalogs. At the time I had no idea who who he was.

I know I am getting old and I guess I may see if Marty Little can be my racing guardian. When you identified Ralph Allen as the race sponsor in the photo I said to myself no way. Then the little light came on that reminded me his Firestone store did in fact on occasion sponsor features. As always all the principals and facts correctly noted.

I never actually saw this car run but it sure was pretty... After dominating the Bomber class at Golden Gate Speedway, Pat Hutcheson moved up to the Early Model six-cylinder class in the early '70s driving this 1958 Plymouth... He later replaced it with a Barracuda that won a ton of races...

Since Sunshine's comin' back:
Bryan Wescott in three of our cars at Sunshine: the black #III into turn one during afternoon practice; the silver #III lined up for the 1985 Florida State Championship (Bob Culvertson has this race on video - thanks, Bob!), and the red #12 after a regular weekly feature win, with my dad on the left, and car owner Bob Kirk on the right.
The fourth one is south Florida's Chargin' Charlie Reagan in our car, in 1978, at Golden Gate's Florida 200 on a Sunday afternoon.
The last one is west coast hot shoe Jim Childers in our car, again at Sunshine. Jim was one of the best behind the wheel of just about anything: Sprint cars (both winged and non-winged), Super Sixes, and Late Models. He could win on dirt and asphalt.
