      Wise guy...

Ask Ricky Booby Rahal Deal why...I'll give him credit for that!

That's the 2nd thread this week you have acted like a wise a--. You brag that you have all of this great racing backgound and history. Maybe your daddy...
Are you a promoter paying the bills? Maybe you should think before you write speak.

        Huh?

Why is it "acting like a wise a--" when asking a legit question?

*Why* in the world would DeSoto be closed for the races in Bristol - FREAKIN' Tennessee - 700-some-odd miles away (or something like that)? There's no reason for it. I haven't "bragged" about anything, have I? I've only *stated* that I've been around short track racing for...well, quite some time.

What about my dad? He's been around racing since...well, since before I was alive...LOL...and still at it. Been a crew chief and a car owner for some of the best damn drivers in the state.

Nope, not a promoter - don't wanna be, either.

I guess I just don't get *why* a track in Florida would close on a weekend that a NA$CAR race is ON TV in Tennessee. That's even worse than say, a track in...Bradenton....closing for the races in Daytona (that's what, *maybe* 150-200 miles away?).

i dont think it has anything to do with Bristol , if you read between the lines of Johns statement it sounds like the track is very close to closing down all operations . no fans , no cars = track owner/operator deep in debt . very sad .

A rising tide floats all boats. We are better off with more racing, more cars and more tracks. Its a drag when a well known venue pulls the plug on SLM like DSS has.

I hope that somebody, somewhere can find the key to turning DSS around.

              Tough Times.

I commend John for letting everyone know ahead. The purses granted are not what the Teams want (and really need to be able even make the races). Just the price of gas and diesel has effected everyone. The Fans are the ones that make or break it in this business. When they are hurting everyone is hurting. Lowering the front gate helps the Fans, BUT!!!! You have to get twice as many for the same revenue gain. Yes, they do eat and drink, but still the cost of the food, drink, electric, Waste Management, phones,...... has cut deep into the margin of the Track Owners. It has got to have positive cash flow to survive. It's going to take every one, the Track Owners (their Staff), the Teams, and the Fans to come up with ways to support and save the Sport of Short Track racing period. John is right "PLEASE BUY A TICKET"!!!!! It helps everyone.

As far a Bristol we had BUDDY'S BIG SREENS around for those who wanted to check in or watch during the races they may not of gone to the track to see that night. That helped BUDDY'S (or AARON, Three KINGS RENTAL, RENT-A-CENTER....). Set the DVR at enjoy the live action in front of you. Just my 2/cents during these Tough Times. Now it's up to you to HELP!!!!! Wants your ideas????

I am very sorry to hear this. Having just come back to short track racing, we intended to tow this year to all the tracks hosting super lates at least once. We were going to Desoto in the fall. It is very sad what has happened to all the tracks. I wish them all the best of luck. It is a very tough business anytime, and much more so in these extreme times.

I sure thought you were being a wise guy. I guess I was mistaken...but it's been common practice for many tracks, for several years now, not to run against the Bristol night race. You seemed like this was a surprise.

The Bristol night race used to be worth watching live. With the progressive banking they added a few years ago, it's become, well, less than entertaining to say the least. It is a shame about the track. We were looking forward to coming to the FUPS race, but no business, whether a race track or a donut shop, can opperate in the red for long, especially when there really isn't any hope on the horizon.

It's maybe time to go back to cluncker & up racing and 5 bucks admission tickets.

Any car, just come and race. Then split the amount of cars in 2 or 3 divisions for their own feature based on their qualification. Make sure all participants understand that this time we'll do it right , with purses that the paying FANS can live with and a feature starting line up that will please the FANS, in order for them to come back, so the participants can keep on doing what they like as their personnal entertainment.

If DSS backs out of the FUPS, what does that due to the series? where was the prizes and cash for the series coming from? does this stick it to the other tracks and the racers or is the prize fund already covered?

The last few years Sunshine stopped running the Lates also.

They have priced themselfs right out of short tracks. Too much to run and too much to have them at a track.

Wow , sounds to me like they are planning on closing. To bad, like the owners or not it sucks to hear track owners making statements like this.

The lack of cars and fans is so sad, such a fun track to race on.
