Bob, I really hope I am wrong and you are right. The problem I see is the cost to educate and inform this new group of fans about local stock car racing. The investment may be more than most tracks, many of which are struggling already, can afford. I have to say, I just don't have much faith in the new group of MOST (not all) younger people being attracted to it. I will also say the 5 hour show may be part of the problem. Just too darn long for most people. I can tell you one of the things that got me away from short track racing for a while was the length of the races. 1 lap, then 15 minutes of yellow, 2 laps, then 15 minutes of yellow. Legend, I agree with you about less races, which for it to work would mean less tracks. That may be what it takes.

you r right legend...
i think every track in florida should close july and august. Its too hot and too rainy and the drivers need time to save money and work on their cars. Racing families can do other things together that are fun for the whole family. camping, fishing, etc during the off time. even nascar takes a few months off. i realize the track owners need the money but i think in the long run, they will get it back thru bigger crowds and better racing. just a thought.
carolwicks aka oz....
the season is too long and there are far too many classes.......

Stimus had the track less than a year. He put tons of money into the track with his promotions and did put plenty of butts in the seats but the return was not enough. Within a year he not only lost the track but his dealerships. I know one of his sons still lives in or near Bradenton. As for Tom himself, after a brief sint in the lock up I believe he moved back to Georgia.

The best way to attract them is to have a good show and let them know about it thru advertising and, yes word of mouth. I agree that todays public wants a visual of every thing and thats why we do a wrap up and a promo each week with pictures and video. We have several hundred hits each week and they aren't all drivers and current fans. I have a mailing list that recieves it each week and linda has another with 2700 addresses and they get it every week. Granted they don't all view it but they all have the oppurtunity. How do you put on a good show? Start by treating your drivers with respect, after all they are you bread and butter. As we can see when there aren't many drivers there aren't many fans. The drivers need to know that when they go to the track of their choice they will be treated fairly and will be paid what was advertised. Consistancey is the name of the game. If you have a show the fans will come I'll gaurentee it. Theres a lot of entertainment in Florida but where can you get 4 or 5 hours of good racing for $10. I'm just saying.. If I mis-smelled stuff I am old and thats my scuse and I'm sticking to it!

I thought Stimus had the track longer than that??Anyways I hate to say it but he DID always get the NASCAR drivers in there for special events.Although I don't really like what NASCAR has become, getting their drivers at your track always seems to pack the stands.I know alot of people don't like Don,but I always thought he did a good job as far back as when he had Lakeland when it had the 1/4 mile on the inside of he 5/8's mile track.Him and Boswell were pioneers in their day.JMO Man I miss those days!!Last edited by dirtballer69; 07-18-2011, 05:06 PM.

Hey Carol..to answer your question about the cars disappearing...I knew that one would come up. Keep in mind all of the US car makers now have front engine rear wheel drive cars...Camaro, Mustang, Challenger...they have been out for several years now so they should start hitting the salvage yards soon...and when I say that I do not mean that they are junk...just a lot of stolen recovery wrecked etc. Those cars will be available soon in addition to the Monte Carlo/Grand Prix/Cutlass/Regal RWD cars, also there are a lot of Thunderbird and Cougars and remember when there were several types of cars running? That is what was fun! And the shiney chrome bumpers LOL AKA The chrome horn!!!Bring back the enginuity hmmm did I spell that right? Build em at home! And most of all HAVE FUN!!!!!!
