  • If you hit the lottery

If you hit the lottery what would be your racing plans. What would you race, what series would you race, what hauler would you buy, and what tracks would you race. If you are not a driver would you be a sponsor or a car owner ?

Being that the lottery is above 20 Million, I would open a track. Then I would find one of the local kids that are 15/16 and do a driver development and taking them threw arca and into a nascar. The rest would go into the bank to grow interest.

I'd go buy Auburndale Speedway from Rex Guy, bulldoze the place and build a 4/10 mile dirt track on the same spot... I'd run 410, 358 and 305 (economy) Sprint Cars every Saturday night just like they do at Knoxville, IA... Maybe even run Legend Cars on the dirt and hold a big LM race every now and then... Run Sprint and Midget specials in February...

If I was to use any of it to be involved in racing, I probably would find someone with a good attitude, there are 2 or 3 in mind, help them to reach their full potential, and in the end, when the help stopped they would probably forget me and have nothing to do with me, as has already happened 2-3 times. LOL But I would help him just to help him, for self satisfaction of helping him. I definately would NOT buy a race car. Also I probably would have 1000 Tuna shirts made and hand them out !! LOL Oh, did I mention I'd but hundreds of dollars worth of waterless hand soap and pass them out at the tracks with "Compliments of Tunafish!!"

If i won i would give each track from east to west coast Florida a big bonus using master techs to tech each car in every class by there own track rules(engines, chassis, etc..) just to see how many would actually pass..Hey its only money right

Ok, try to keep up. First, I get a small toter with a two car, goose-neck trailer. Something big enough to travel, but still be easy to park and store. In the trailer is a spot for a sprinter and a modified. The sprinter would be selected from the fleet depending on the race: dirt or pavement, winged or non-winged, limited or whatever. And the other spot would be filled with a pavement modified.

If the jackpot was a BIG one, then I am off to the NE to try out super modifieds at Oswego.

lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

                      I would...

Buy Desoto Speedway and return it to her rightful spot as the premier, asphalt short track in Florida. And because I'd be wealthy beyond my wildest dreams I would be able to run any event or try any strategy to make the place profitable or at least to the point where it would be a wash financially.

Purses would be the highest in the country and there would be only four classes each night. Yep, you heard me. Friday AND Saturday nights. Sundays would be reserved for special races and "other" motorized and non motorized events. Track personnel would be paid handsomely but as such will be expected to be the cream of the crop at their position whether it be flagman, staging director, tech man or fry cook in the cafeteria (more on that later). If they did not excel or could not perform their duties in a competent and professional manner....seeya. All the facilities, including restrooms, play areas, beer gardens and grandstands would be fully staffed with ample security and access. Communications both for the fan and the racers would be state of the art in the pits and the grandstands.

There would be giveaways to please the kids and ladies along with special events during intermission that would involve the fans and drivers (and crews) interacting with each other. Beer pushes. Suitcase races. Ride alongs for the kids (damn the insurance), stunt drivers......entertainment. THAT'S what people want. To be entertained. Maybe a boxing ring in the infield for idiots who can't get along in the pits or on the track. Suggestion boxes at the gate for the fans and racers BOTH. Rent-a-Bomber cars for the Average Joe who wants to see how hard it is before he starts spending money. THAT idea alone is worth what it would cost for a track owner/promoter to build and maintain a car that he could use to draw new racers into his budget class of racers. Hooking em' on racing with a test drive (race). Doesn't have to be capable of beating the track champion, just has to be safe and run within a second or two of the front runners. Great....there goes my million dollar idea.

I'd buy the drag strip too just so I could make the two work together and support each other. They don't have to share fans(but it would be cool) they just have to NOT be a hinderance for the other one. I would pay someone else to schmooze the local politicians and business leaders (cause I don't kiss ass too well) and do whatever it took to keep them on my side. I would show them what an asset a racetrack could be to the county rather than a noise nuisance. There would be rental facilities on the grounds for racers to rent at a reasonable price to store and work on their cars. The track would be available for testing more than just one day a week.

There would be fair and impartial tire rules. No kickbacks, backwards point funding systems or mid season changes in the policy. Straightforward and affordable with the racers bottom line the primary factor, not the tracks. The tech man would have the final word regarding rulings over competition rulings. No ifs, ands or buts......BUT....he better be right because he will held accountable for all decisions rendered. If he throws a car out, he better be prepared to defend his ruling. When you pay a good tech man a fair salary and don't try and tell him how to run his shed...the cream will rise to the top of the cup. Same goes for the Flagman. He/she has the ultimate responsibility and duty to make all the rulings concerning actions ON the track. He or she must be in constant communication with his assistant flagmen and corner workers but ultimately the decisions regarding track incidents falls on him/her. But again, they will be held accountable to explain and defend their rulings. The track owner/promoter will have no say in the decisions made on Saturday night but will have plenty to say during the week when the nights action is reviewed.

The food court and cafeteria. Well. First off they would be spotless. Fully staffed and turning out the best food at the most affordable prices in the country. People will want to eat at the track because it will cost less than McDonalds and Wendy's in addition to tasting much, much better and with three times the choices. The beer garden will be adjacent to the section of the stands set aside for fans who like to get their drink on....along with security to handle the idiots. There will also be a staffed play area for the kids, both indoor and outdoor, with a parent friendly WiFi room with XBoxes, etc...but the races will be so good and the entertainment level so high there won't be a need for artificial, mind erasing computer games.

One night will feature the Late Models and the other, Sprints. Fill both cards with three maaaayyyybe 4 other divisions. Special shows for NASCAR Modifieds (during Speedweeks - sorry New Smyrna but our beaches are waayyyy better). Drifters and other kiddie stuff on Sundays or Mondays ONCE in a while....

I wouldn't be there much, myself, as I would be off racing either my Spinter, Dirt Modified, PASS Late model, Tour Modified or Craftsman Truck most weekends.

In between the hunting, four-wheeling and bikini judging, that is.

Might buy another race car but I'd hire someone to work on it and a pit crew for weekends. Also, buy a house in Aspen and one in Costa Rica. Racing, surfing, snow boarding.....oh yeah!

Yup,I'd put a 1/4miler track in some were around Miami, but I'd need to rethink the Nascar part maybe

Hmmmmmmmm...I'd take the old/lazy man's route and buy a nice motor home and a SCCA Spec Racer. Just travel the country and race. Those are probably the ultimate low-maintenance race car, and they look like a bunch of fun to drive.
