First of all, if people from the VFW come to watch their cars run, they deserve to have all the luxuries of an enclosed trailer. Second of all, why worry what other people spend their extra cash on? Don't shoo away money from coming to the track (especially when tracks need it now more than ever to survive), those guys have huge teams who have to buy concessions, pit entry, and maybe even put some extra fans in the stands (aka pay the tracks bills and your purse). If they want to run a street stock, thats their choice. It's the tracks responsibility to enforce rules to keep costs of building and running the cars down. Im a victim of the mini stock class at Volusia (RIP) and saw first hand what its like when people with money are allowed to bend the rules. I didnt blame the racers, because the tracks are letting them do it! In my opinion, trailers are irrelevent in the argument of cutting costs in short track racing.
Open trailers might catch the attention of a seasoned race fan and lead him to a new track if hes visiting and has nothing better to do. However, focusing on the younger crowds and "new to racing" crowd is what should be discussed when promoting is ever mentioned. In case u havent noticed, not too many of them show up to the track. It's mostly older die hard fans. We need to create the next generation of these die hard fans, for they are the true foundation of racing. The younger crowd wouldn't even know what that batmobile (which is what all my friends call my mini stock) looking thing is on an open trailer.
