  • What's killing short track racing? I'll show ya...

Here's part of what's killin' it: how 'bout Street Stocks (metric Chevys, like y'all's Super Stocks) with enclosed trailers. *Sigh*...and there were only seven of these in the pits, but there were 27 Main Event Late Models (traveling series; only nine finished the 56 laps before rain came) and 23 Supermodifieds from as far away as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Canada. There were also open-wheel Modifieds, but only about nine of those...

          It does seem silly but..

it sure is nice to have one when it's hot, cold or raining! I preferred to spend my money on other things...like engines and tires!

So tell us Professor, whats wrong with enclosed trailers? Move up?To what? $50,000 late models? Shit with the rules today you morons, you have to put at LEASE $6000 in a motor for a frikkin super stock. They're called super stocks, whats stock about them? They should have stock engines with maybe a little cam, if everyones going 5 miles an hr less isnt the compitition as good? I mean look at the E mods. And what about the tires? used to be atNSS and OSW at least you couldnt buy new tires, they had to be takeoffs. Thats back when the cost made a little more sense, also they had lots more cars and fans then. so yes you will have $10,000 Min or more in a frikkin super stock today, makes no sense.

actually Professor, you go to the complainers forum, read Tazmans post. Let me save you the trouble professor of pointing out he's talking about a kart track and we're talking about short track racing, but one BIG problem is the same, it's called favoritism!! At least in the area where I am.

None, and it's because everyone keeps doing a little more, push the envelope, pushing tech just a little more, and tech, wether intentional or not, letting them get away with it. Now to be competitive, you must do all these things, hence, the series dies. Same thing with the trucks and Super Stocks will be next. How much sence does $10,000 - $12,000 for a super stock make?

I like seeing the cars on open trailers i think it sparks intrest in people to come to a race. Its like watching a food commercial that makes you hungry. I also understand having a closed trailer at the same time with weather an such but i have seen closed trailers with see through sides so you could show your car an advertise it instead of guessing whats inside..

Robert Hart spoke on tape in an interview with Jim Fenton about open trailers. As he said, with open trailers it gave the public a view of the cars and ended up following them to the track. Enclosed trailers with no indication of what's inside have hurt short track racing.
Bob with florida Video has that interview somewhere.

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

Good 'ol Duke Southard had the best idea... An enclosed trailer with plexiglass on the sides... Kept the car dry but everyone could see what was inside...
How many of you remember that trailer at OSW and NSS?

                            here's Roberts interview.

I think open trailers are the ticket, but I can also understand the desire to keep all you have spent your hard earned money dry and safe. The next thing is to letter the trailer with a picture of your car, but that's expensive. I have been on vacation and followed open trailers to tracks I didn't know existed.

I remember...Southard's Racing School has one of the trailers i was talking about. He's had it for years and a great idea to tow and show your car with an inclosed trailer.
