Hey 11 cars is ok. the ones that didnt come will show up now. The worst they can do is 12th.
If the tires were the same it would have helped. they have to spend a lot of money for practice and race tires. If it was the same tirs everyone whould have something to practice on and some of the other cars would race a 100 laper on 25 lap used tires or can buy new ones and use them at there home track for a small 25 lap event.
Being different is a way to keep your cars at home but stoping others from traveling. Think about it. The other tracks got you set up. Either or will be a good tire rule for down there.

          11 cars at pgs

Maybe the fact that there were only 11 cars is because of the person promoting this series. Maybe everybody had enough of that last year!!

I think the car count at PGS, has to do with the previous weeks Late model race at Desoto, and of course weather, I was not at Desoto, but was told that there was some cars tore up. With todays economy, I am sure some of these teams just don't have the money to complete repairs for a following weeks race. My son and I race at PGS, we are there every saturday, and know many of the late model teams, and help on a team there every race. last year I believe they had between 20 and 25 SLM for most of the races, same tire, same tire rule. Everyone seems to want to bash PGS, or cause contoversy, and speculate why PGS had this many cars, or not, could it be Demographics, I know big word, and or Economy, but alot of the cars that race at most tracks tend to do so because they are close to that track. teams have to buy tires no matter which track they run at, and anyone close to these teams knows that most teams are going to but new tires at the track, you can only practice so much on used up tires, and once they have them they can use them next race . So really everyone, so many times I hear lets support Florida short tracks, well lets do that, especially your local track you live at, like we do, we are there every week, we support our racing families. Kevin Williams and the track Management and staff works hard to give us a place for our passion. If you have first hand experience with a track, such as PGS, like I have, every week, all year, then you can then post with truth backed by actual data. otherwise your negativivity just cause hate and discontent. Why do that, support these tracks so we can keep doing what we love, whether it is watching or racing, and believe it or not guys and gals, racing is not for the faint of heart, or anyone who gets their feelings hurt quickly, or their panties in a bunch,,,, amen, holy crap, wheres the tylenol.........LOL

I believe if Punta Gorda had a tire rule in line with the rest of Florida's tracks they would get a better car count for their special races. Why would a team want to travel to a special race and buy a set or two of tires that they can't race at any other track? Or at least have an open tire rule so they can race the tires they already have. Punta Gorda is the only asphalt track in the state running the Goodyear tires. If you want to race there you have to buy tires. If you don't race there on a regular basis, you are going to have tires that you can't use at any other track. Another thought. Citrus had, I believe, 16 late models for a regular show on Saturday. If one track has a special, why not work with the other track so you aren't competing for cars? All the rest of the tracks in the state have decided to do that, except for one. You guessed it. Punta Gorda. I just hope they continue to work together and Punta Gorda joins in to make all the class rules similar. If the track wants to have their own tire deal, that's fine. But allow open tire rule for the events that should attract the traveling teams. Make the tires punch a minimum. JMO

                      Goodyear

Punta Gorda has a contract with Goodyear until the end of 2011, and it was set up long before the other tracks switched to the other tire. Punta Gorda can not go to the other tire until 2012 at the earliest. Stop saying, "If they would just use the same tire", because they can not do that. Let it go.

                        Wre11,

One would think Punta Gorda would have an "official" announcement of their position concerning tires. I'm not questioning what you wrote, but with all the bad publicity the track is getting, they really should express their position.

I believe in 2010, when the track changed ownership, there was an official announcement, that stated Goddyear was, and will be the tire used at PGS, in all classes. It was also announce again in many post here at the end of 2010. Like I stated above, My son and I race there weekly, we ran a full season last year, and will continue to this year in the Pro 4 division. Now granted that is not the latemodel or higher division, but we also have the same tire rule, and run a Goodyear short track tire. The contoversy, does not seem to come from the Racers that run PGS on a regular basis, be it 4cyl to Late model, but from people who seem to be completely un informed, and seem to want to create controversy. PGS generally has really good Fan attendance and Car count, there will always be people not happy, some you can never make happy , but all in all we seem to have a good tire, for all classes, it keeps people from bringing in other tires that may be tampered with, which we all now would never happen!!!! with out creating a whole lot of problems with the rules, this is the tire PGS uses, and like I said, it is, and has not been a secret, it was not done to create controversy, it was a business descion made by the track owner for what he felt was the best choice for his track, and at prices that seem to benifit the racers. If you want to race in any of the divisions there, thats what tire you run,,,,,,, no controversy, cut, dry easy, LETS RACE

Opps!! If you think i was bashing the track you took it wrong !!
I have not bashed anything that they have done and if i make a statement that i think something will help like tire rule .If they did something that i though was stupid i would laugh to my self.
I think they have done a good job up to now but you can loose that momentum in one bad race.
the tire rule might hurt the car count and i know that goodyear would not hold them to that contract if they wanted to do either or for a few races to help get going.
                            was that bashing??

I really think the official tire manufacturer , official fuel brand , official new car dealer , official soft drink , official beer , etc . needs to go away as fast as possible . Goodyear wants to sell race tires . Okay , so sell them . If they have a good product at a fair price , that shouldn't present a problem . If all of the other tire manufacturers are allowed to compete too , then wheres the issue . Tire companys will compete with each other for market share at each track , and the prices should go down . They certainly won't go up . At least the racers won't be forced to buy one brand of tire at one track , and another brand of tire for another track or series .
Race tracks will always accept money so that one manufacturer can be the exclusive supplier . Thats been going on for decades . But , there are far better ways of bringing in money than points funds provided by the vendors . That point fund money has to come back to the manufacturer somehow . Get point fund money and race sponsorship from Lowes , Home Depot , Bright House , Aarons , McDonalds , and so on .

Every time we had an open tire rule the price went up. In 1975 a goodyear tire was $150 but it was the fastest .
In 81 we made a rule that any tire that sold for $70 at the track and Hoosher was the only one to build anything. It wasent verry fast but we raced on them. All the same is the best deal . When there is only one different its going to be tough.
