  • East Bay switching to Good Year in 2011

With the cost of Hoosiers continuining to rise Al has made a smart choice to switch to Good Year for 2011. Late models were paying $165 in 2010 and can now pay $125 per tire. Also they are moving to a hard compound only rule in the late models and limited which i believe is equal to a Hoosier 55 durometer wise. OWM/SS were paying 145 last year and now can pay $105 per tire. Outlaw 4 were paying $130 last year and will now pay somewhere between $90-100. I think this move will be great for the track and I believe there will be a better points fund but dont quote me on that.

Sounds good on paper, but the durability of the Goodyears will determine if it's a good move or not. If they are shot, or un-competetive after 1 week, then it will wind up costing MORE than a more expensive tire that has a longer life span.

Now that's interesting - this past year Goodyear has ended up costing racers all over the country money, at least in sprint cars.

Nice to see the opposite is true for a change.

How can you say that? Do you know what compound they will be using and where is your proof there like plastic. From what we was told Saturday they are more durable and will last longer than the Hoosier they were using. The drivers that were doing the testing for the tires said they were a good consistent solid tire. As was said at the banquet, which i might add was put - on for $12 dollars per person, this was done to save the racers money.

How is that a good move by eastbay if all other dirt tracks in state not running Goodyear tires seems like odd man out

the good years were junk the last time we ran them!!! when we swithed to hoosiers everyone got faster and better control of thier car! thats a fact!
goodyear may be cheaper, but if they only last a race or 2, whats the purpose? they glaze over to quick, now that all fl dirt track are on hoosier and we can run any track we want, eb go's to good year. hmmmmmmm. like i said we've been here before! alot of people will be going elsewhere. sucks really. i love eastbay and was raised at that track my whole life, but i think this was a bad move.imo

Do these prices include sales tax, and the per tire state excise tax?

When was the last time EB was on Good year? I've been going there since 2002 and its always been Hoosier. One of the benefits of these tires is that they dont glaze over as bad as the Hoosier. That is a fact from the tire test they run. The life of the tire is said to be longer also. I dont see where making tires $40 a piece cheaper is going to hurt the class. So let me get this straight alot of people are going to leave EB because now you are going to be able to save a $160 on a set of tires. I'll try to figure that one out when I have time.
As for other tracks being on Hoosiers and EB being on GoodYear. This would only matter if guys traveled alot. 99% of the racers now a days race there home track and thats it. What tire your home track is on doesn't really matter if it's the only place you race.
Give them a chance as was said at the banquet they did this to save the racers money and if they stayed on Hoosier the tire price in 2011 would be higher than in 2010.

Actually this will hurt the traveling racer that may have to run one brand of tire on a Friday night and another on a Saturday. It will also hurt the driver that runs another track primarily and occasionally travels to East Bay. The drivers that will only race at East Bay will benefit. A bigger advantage to the drivers would be to allow any brand of tire as long as it meets certain specs. Looks like Hendry County may be doing the best thing. How will this affect the cars that race in series? For instance, will sprint cars that run East Bay and the Top Gun series have to own a couple different brands of tires? Or the East Bay regulars that travel to race with the UDLMCS or NLMS?
Don't get me wrong. I agree with trying to save money. The tracks need to work together though.

you can run all 3 at Hendry

Along with the “American Racer and Hoosier’s” You may now run “Goodyear. We have approved the:

27.5×8x15 2941-G40 and 2946-G45 for the right side only.
and 27.0×8x5 2940-G40 for the left side only.
