Yes, kinda. The first number, on that list, 900$+ is for that FREE health care insurance.
Somebody forgot what FREE meant when they instated that FREE health insurance system long time ago here. It's should be called, ''available health care for everybody'', but definitetly not ''FREE''.
But the way it works here, it's a good thing.André Fortin

Far as property taxes go, my neighbors house is valued prob. 10,000-20,000 more than mine, his taxes 1000-1500 less. Why? He's been there for ever, has been homestead exempted all those yrs. This is what MOST people dont know, or do know but won't tell you, (Realtors) The FIRST yr you buy a house you can NOT get Homestead Exemption, this leaves the window open for the city to Re-Evaluate the propert and base taxes on thatfigure. AFTER that, if exempted they can only raise the taxes 5% per yr. Another form of BS. Hence, 2 houses next to each othet, equal value, one owned 20 yrs, the other 2 yrs, the taxes can be over $1000 differant. And I was dumb enough to think taxes were based on the amount an individual costs the city for public services. Exemption sounds GREAT until YOU'RE the one buying. Again, 1st yr in mt house the taxes were $4200, neighbors was $1800!!

the fee increases are "right" to the extent that Florida has to meet it's financial obligations. i was merely surprised that Ed got caught out by this. it's been in the newspaper and on all of the local news shows around here.
you want to get into a debate about which parts of the state budget ( i'd go for the DNR and Education departments and the $1 billion dollar US Sugar deal although that's really just another DNR initiative ) should be gutted in order to help balance against tax and fee increases, you could fill an entire forum with that.
i thought the DOT fee increases were mostly pointless because most people were going in 1-3 months early and renewing their licenses and tags. Fla moved a lot of fee collection forward, there's going to be a huge drop off here for the next couple of months at the new rates and then around December you'll see what the actual impact is going to be as people start taking trailers and vehicles off of the road rather than replating them. how big will the final impact be? i don't pretend to know.
will there be a net increase in fees collected? in this economic climate? that might be optimistic. i bet a bunch of RV's and 2nd/3rd vehicles are going to wind up getting parked.

Taxes?---Florida has zero STATE taxes to tag anyone with. It's made up elswhere. You're not the only one with trailers. We all have to pay the so-called taxes on them, like me, we have lots of them.
In the big picture,, Florida is a really cheap State to live in.

Why do you think there were more people leaving Fl. than moving in last 2 yrs for first time in history? So they can freeze and shovel snow again, I don't think so.

blatantly false, Roger.
Florida has no state income tax. but like all states that have no income tax, Florida makes up for it with higher property, fuel and sales taxes and various fees. Florida loves hotel fees, so they can soak the out-of-staters.

in relation to the state tax burden? yeah.

in reality? no way in hell. money goes a heck of a lot further in other states than it does here due to lower property prices ( which means that the effective property tax rate is much lower even if the percentage tax charged is higher ) and fees. there is a reason why everybody stops at the last fuel stop in Georgia before coming into Florida.Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

edit
I meant Income Tax, all along. I thought it was a given, I should have written it so, omitted the Income part---esqueeze me.
And the charts merely show the same, but in reality, as you focus upon, I disagree.
Back, way back when in the early 1980's, camp was really easy to set up in Florida. Any John Doe could come to Florida, set up camp, get a job, and live....somewhat.....happily ever after.
A simple life somewhat, a job, a paycheck, a car, a house, a wife and kids, and be merrily on their way to the back of the endzone.
I still think that this, and this is mee, that Florida is a cheap State to live in.
Maybe not for everyone. No f-ing stopping now, if your in this life, no stopping at all.
But, this is supposed to be about RACING, and I think that I have transgressed this somewhat.

Just thought I would share some insight to your question, it was your state legislators that raised your tag/drivers license and traffic fines on Sept 1 2009. Most actually went up 40 percent or more. To purchase a new plate when you add a vehicle to your household or for the first time went from 100.00 to 225.00 and to get a metal plate went from 10.00 to 28.00. To renew your driver license went from 15.00 to 48.25 and so on and so on. The state's reasoning was that they hadn't increased your fees in over 15 years so they should catch up. But think back to when Crist pushed for you to vote to lower your property taxes by 250.00 a year...... it also cut out the property taxes on mobile home additions and personal property taxes on small businesses. When the state loses money they have to get it somewhere. Also the DMV started renewing tags for 2 years at a time and when the increase of revenue came in they didn't realize or plan that the following years revenue base would be lower as they already had these funds and so they didn't incorporate that in the budget and needed the money for the shortages they created. So now this really doesn't have anything to do with Obama, by no means has he done us any favors but this on is not his. To lower the tag fees went back to the legislators this year but failed. We all should learn a lesson from this when the government is going to give you something it will cost you at least twice as much to pay it back.
