Real Racin’ USA Media
Sumter South Carolina has sported a stock car track for over 50 years, and while it has teetered on the edge of extinction, long time promoter and media man Dargan Watts has a story to tell about survival.
You see, there are some folks up in Sumter that just refuse to allow that grand old dirt track to go the way of the drive-in. For a true grass roots racing adventure, be sure to tune into Real Racin’ USA tonight (Tuesday) for the inside story of Sumter Speedway.
THE SOUTH’S SUPER LATE MODELS GETTIN’ IT ON!
Wow. Twenty super late models took to the track at the 3/4 mile USA International Speedway for some good old southern short track super late model racing this past Saturday night. One of the youngsters in the field was Ryan Sieg, brother of Shane Sieg, from Tucker Ga.Ryan had a great run going and may have had a chance to wrestle the lead from veteran NASCAR racer Wayne Anderson, but for a late race run in. “One of them racin deals”, if you know what we mean. Ryan will tell us all about it tonight in the first hour of the show, live from the Snook River Grill.
Also on the subject of Super Late Models, there is one of those events that warm your heart coming up this weekend. The 12th Annual Powell Memorial will be held at the 3/8 mile Ocala Speedway, in Ocala, Florida. James Powell tragically lost six members of his six members of his family in a Gainesville, FL airplane crash in June of 1995, including his twin daughters. Ironically James and his wife Kim are expecting a baby daughter any day, in fact yesterday was the due date.
James is “one of the good guys” of racing and is also one of Florida’s top super late model drivers. A large field of cars is expected for Friday night’s 125 lap race, and could be topped off with a good view of the night launch of the Space Shuttle. James, along with track owner Mike Peters, will be very special guests when we fire up the mixers for Real Racin USA on Tuesday night. There is a lot of history connected with this event and we will cover some of it with James and Mike.
DRAG RACERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Real Racin’ USA always seeks out some interesting motorsports personalities, as regular listenersare aware of, and we also ask questions that not many other interviewers ask. Tonight’s show is no exception as we talk with a young lady who has that “need for speed”. Brenda Grubbs, Paldale, Fl. loves to go fast and we will talk with her about her IHRA adventure.
The All Harley Drags make a return to Real Racin’ USA with riders Jay Turner and Rick Moore. Both are racers on both Pro Drag and Pro Gas divisions. Going fast is a straight line these days is one thing, but on only two wheels, (or is it one wheel?), is a whole different deal.
Join us tonight at 7 PM…we will keep you entertained!
