Auburndale Speedway was once a bustling 1/4 speedway with huge car counts and packed grandstands. That is what new ownership and new race management want to see again. The speedway, located in central Florida near Lakeland, was recently purchased by the Guy family and has brought Ronnie Sims on board to get the race program back up to speed.
On hand Tuesday night at the Snook River Grill will be Rex Guy, representing the ownership, along with Ronnie Sims and Harold Crooms who is promoting a big modified event at the speedway in October. The event is to honor Harold’s father who raced at “A-Dale” for many years.
Beginning this week Real Racin’ USA will feature a full half hour of news and interviews from the exciting world of the All Harley Drag Racing series. These wild racers fly down the 1/4 mile at over 200 mph on two wheels (or less). Steve LeTempt, announcer for many events on the series tour, will co-host the segment. This week highlights the recent show at Commerce Ga., the Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson Southern Nationals.
Rick Day, former Florida SARA series promoter and former GM at San Antonio Speedway, says he might have something to say about the politics in racing. San Antonio Speedway closed earlier this year, reducing further the short track racing scene in Texas.
