Real Racin’ USA Release

While many of the eighteen racers highlighted in the two months that the “ASA Fastlane” show have been youngsters with a lot of success under their belts, this week’s Wednesday night offering will shine the spotlight on two of Florida’s veteran racers.

jasonboyd.jpgJason Boyd was one of the last dozen drivers left standing in the Roush Gong show in 2005. Boyd has won races in many divisions and is recent years has raced late models , super late models and open wheel modifieds. In fact, in 2004, Boyd won the Goodyear Challenge Series Championship and in 2005 won the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series title, driving under the tutelage of the legendary Dick Anderson.

Jason Boyd got an opportunity to race in the ‘old’ ASA series, driving the #86 Frankie Grill car. When the cars get ready for qualifying at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, there won’t be a driver in the field with more experience on the track than Jason Boyd.

tommyking.jpgTommy King, like Boyd, spends his days working on other people’s equipment and setting them up to win. King is another of the drivers from the Lakeland area, the hotbed for winning race car drivers. In the ASA Southern Division right now Chris Fontaine, Sean Bass, Wayne Morris and Tommy King among others, all come from the same backyard.

Among other titles, King won the Fastrucks Series title, one of the most competitive racing series in Florida a few years back. These days Kings ‘project’ is young Casey Caudill, a driver King is working with to prepare for late model racing.

The “ASA Fastlane” airs each Wednesday at 8 PM on the Real Racin’ USA Internet broadcasting network, and all shows and interviews are always available as a Podcast or can be listened to using the Real Racin’ USA Flash Player. The “ASA Fastlane” is a one hour show focusing on in depth interviews with ASA drivers and other personalities associated with the series.
The ASA Late Models begin practice at 1:00 and it ends at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday June 23rd. This limited practice time is going to work in the favor of the drivers most familiar with the newly paved, scary fast speedway. As one veteran observer pointed out “this track can hurt you”, and we have witnessed that reality on more than one occasion ourselves.

New Smyrna Speedway General Manager Terry Roberts observed that many of the drivers from outside of Florida have raced at the track during the annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, and many have tested this year in preparation for the Florida 100. As for the newly paved surface Roberts said “The track is getting better and better and better”, noting that “Craftsman Truck teams and several Cup teams have practiced here, and that speaks volumes.”

The grandstands open at 4 PM Saturday and ASA qualifying begins at 4:30 PM. In addition to the Florida 100, the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series and the Southern Sportsman Series each will run 50 lap races.

The Florida 100 will be broadcast live via Internet Radio by Real Racin’ USA, with ASA announcer Matt Prieur calling the action with able assistance from Bill Green. In addition KARNAC.com and Real Racin’ USA will provide live updates and fresh photos as the action unfolds.
