Hot Licks Racing Coming To Real Racin’ USA

“We beat Loose Cannon 1st round with a 4.95 @ 228mph – 2.92 @ 207 mph at the half. In the semi’s things came undone literally. The blower came apart, it lifted, broke the pulley and crank, big boom and lots of fire. It burnt most of the wiring, air lines, new computer stuff, etc. Engine swap was no problem.”

If you think the above is about drag racing, you are right. But Hot Licks Racing doesn’t travel on on dry land, oh no these bad dragsters blast past the 200 mph barrier in a 1/4 mile on the water. The fuel lines are 3 and 1/2 inches in diameter. Bad Fast!

From the Hot Links web site:
“The basics of drag boat racing are very similar to those of land drag racing. It is an acceleration race over a measured quarter mile straightaway on water between two high performance race boats.

However, drag boats us a slight moving start. This starting system was implemented as a safety precaution because it is difficult for a boat driver to determine if the boat will launch straight from a standing start.

As two boats are “paired up” on the holding rope, a countdown clock begins before the boats get the green light. During competition, if either boat crosses the starting line before the green light is illuminated, it is disqualified.”

Dennis Gibson, owner of Hot Licks Racing joins hosts Rick Anges and Jack Smith on Tuesday night’s Real Racin USA Live show on March 11. Dennis got started in this sport in 2002 with the purchase of “Hot Licks”, the first of the drag boats the team races.

We met up with Dennis at the PRI show in Orlando back in December, and the stuff he threw at us was off the charts. Everything the top fuel dragsters you see at big time IHRA and NHRA events go through except on water.

Since the 2008 season really gets going in April, we thought it time to talk to Dennis Gibson and get more acquainted with this awesome sport.

Other guests this Tuesday night will be Late Model star Jeff Choquette. There are always minor skirmishes in the stock car world and lately motor rules have surfaced again as a contentious topic. McGunegill, Progressive, Hamner are among the names when it comes to late model racing motors. Choquette is expected to counter statements made by Wayne Anderson on a recent show regarding the performance issues. Other guests on this topic will be announced later.

And how about this one: Diana Dickerson with Lakeland and Ridge HD in Florida talks about taking her first green flag on her 2003 Buel XB9R. A woman on a road course and no speed limit.

During the week she instructs riders on how to ride a bike on the street, but this weekend she becomes the student and explores a whole new world of speed, as she continues to develop her riding skills and knowledge. Dickerson felt the rush of 120 mph speed in the straightaways, laying it low in the turns to the point of using knee pads on the asphalt and she is hooked. After she made her first qualifing laps, she said, “I don’t even smoke, but after that I think I need a Cigarette!” Stevie LeTempt from the “Straightlining With Stevie” drag racing show sits in on this one.

You know it is going to be wild!

Real Racin USA Live each Tuesday opens all the motor sports doors, leaving no stone unturned to find the most exciting and interesting personalities in the business.
