Many fans of Late Model stock car racing may never have heard of Colt James, but get ready, that may be about to change. Colt moved away from his hometown of Buda, Texas 4 years ago to seek his place in the world. His place ended up being in the world of Roush Racing, where he landed a gig in the garage.
Colt James went back home this past weekend and took all the marbles in the ASA Late Model Challenge Series Alamo 200, the season opener at San Antonio Speedway. He won his first career ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier Award. The 23 year old racer started ninth after the field was inverted, and took the lead from veteran Eddie Hoffman on lap 52 and went on to the biggest win of his career.
Colt will spend some time with Real Racin’ USA hosts Bill Green, Rick Anges and Jack Smith on the weekly Tuesday night two hour broadcast, beginning at 7 PM. If you have a question you would like to ask Colt, send us an e-mail during the show to guest@realracinusa.com
Following James will be longtime motorsports writer for the Ledger (Lakeland, Fl), the “Old Codger” himself, John Barker. John is coming out of retirement to cover the ASA Late Model series, and will be providing regular updates to Short Track America as he travels to 15 races during the year. John took a look at the talent at San Antonio and will give race fans a real sense of what to expect in 2007.
Another late model series gaining acceptance these days is the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS). We hope to get a an update from one of reporters in the Georgia/Alabama area as and speak with Tim Bryant, promoter of Five Flags Speedway which hosts the GAS March 10.
Tim Lake, hired just this week by FASCAR to run Columbia Motorsports Park, will let fans in on one of Florida’s best kept secrets: the half mile race track in Lake City, Fl.
Real Racin’ USA is always about having fun and it should be a wild time with the Charlotte County Motorsports Park Road Warriors in attendance at the Snook River Grill this Tuesday night. These guys and gals only know three wide and no holds barred fender bangin’, so we may have to separate a few of them. Just kidding, race fans, but you are more than welcome to come join us. The Snook River Grill is 50 miles south of Tampa and 50 miles north of Punta Gorda. Take Exit 221 west for 3 miles and you will find us on the right.
As always we reserve the right to surprise listeners with special guests, so be prepared. One fan called last week to tell us show “your show is too fast, we can’t keep up”.
That’s a complaint we love to hear, and we make it a point to really be the “fastest racing show on the ‘net or anywhere else”.
Listen 7-9 PM each Tuesday evening by clicking on the flashing “live audio” or “on air” button, located on every page of SHORT TRACK AMERICA.
