Motorsports Safety; Motorsports Writers May Provoke Controversy

May 15, 2007

Few subjects in racing and motorsports safety are as likely to cause controversy and arguments than the subject of safety at speedways and racing venues. There is of course a lot of misinformation spread by well meaning by badly informed fans or officials on the subject.

Over the next several weeks, Real Racin’ USA will delve into the subject and listen to the experts. Not race promoters, nor opinionated fans, but the people who work to make our race tracks as safe as they possibly can. They are the owners and staff of motorsports safety teams.

Of course Craig Clarke, one of the co-hosts of Real Racin’ USA, has a 25 year history in motorsports safety and is the head of the IHRA safety team, Track Rescue. He will be assisting our interviews of safety officials around the country with his special expertise.

Also on tap for tonight is a discussion of motorsports media with members of that small club of professional writers and observers. These are the people who are paid to produce articles and radio/Internet broadcasts. One of the least understood by promoters and fans alike is the expertise, time and dedication involved in producing high quality media for fans, speedway promotions and driver-sponsor relations. Among the guests will be John Barker, longtime media writer for The Ledger, a Lakeland, Florida based newspaper. John has also represented many tracks and drivers.

Also slated for Real Racin’ USA on May 15 will be an interview with Travis Reynolds, the Media and Public Relations Manager for the IHRA. Steve LeTempt will get with hosts Jack Smith, Rick Anges and Craig Clarke to announce the upcoming All Harley Drags special shows coming to Real Racin’ USA.

As always you never know who we might surprise you with on Real Racin’ USA. Two weeks ago fans were presented with an interview with NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip, and each week there are always something to get your attention. Two hours of the most entertaining Internet racing radio on the planet are assured each week.

Tune us in at 6:30 PM you don’t want to miss the qualifying races.
